.Salem, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stop Mechauisms; and I do hereby declare. the followingto be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The, present invention relates to an improved stop mechanism particularly designed for use in connection with sole rounding machines but which is also capable of use in other relations. In. the operation of the stop mechanism above describedyit will be noted that the. driving shaft rotates in one direction only the means which idlowshthe forward movement/of the mechanism driven by the'driving shaft after the shaft has been disconnected from the source'of power-and. which imparts a return movement to said mechanism being arranged'to act on said mechan'ism withoutimparting a return movement to the driving shaft. So far as I am advised of the state of the art, in all stop mechanisms of this type which have heretofore been devised, the means for imparting a return'movement to the mechanism driven by the mechanismdriven by the-driving shaft:

A stop mechanism. having,in combination, a-shaft, means for actuating the same comprising clutch members movable toward and from each other a, brake and mechanism thrown into operation. by the shaft for separating said clutch members and applying said brake comprising a lever mounted concentrically with said shaft, pins mounted to slide in said lever, a cam engag ing said pins and connections between said pins and said clutch members, substantially assdescribed.

A stop mechanism, having, in combination. a shaft, mechanism driven by said shaft. :1 spring connection between said shaft and said mechanism arranged to allow an independent substantial forward movement of said mechanism and to impart a return movement thereto and an independent cushion device for stopping the return movement of said mechanism, substantially as described.

shaft means for connecting and disconnecting said shaft and its actuating means, a gear driven by said shaft, means for impartmg a positive forward movement to said gear from said shaft, a spring connecting the gear and shaft arranged to allow an independent substantial forward movement of the gear and to impart a return movement thereto, and means for adjusting the tension of the spring, substantially as described.

A stop mechanism, having, in combination, a shaft, means for actuating said shaft, means for connecting and disconnecting said shaft and its actuating means, a bevel gear mounted on the shaft, means for imparting a positive forward movement to said car from the shaft, a rotary table provide? with a bevel gear meshing with the bevel gear on the shaft, and a spring connecting the bevel gear and shaft arranged to allow an independent substantial forward movement'of the gear and table and to impart a return movement thereto, substantially as described.
17, stop mechanism having in combination, a shaft and means for rotating the shaft in one direction only, means for stopping said shaft, mechanism to be driven by said shaft, driving means between the shaft and said mechanism embodying devices which drive the mechanism positively in one direction while the shaft is rotating and yet permit the momentum of the mechanism when the shaft is stopped to carry the mechanism a substantial distance forward and then overcome the momentum and resiliently return the mechanism to initial position while the shaft is still at a stand-still.-
