This pin 32 thus prevents the: holder from sliding longitudinally upon the supporting pin, holding the arm 28 in the path of the earns 13 and the slot 31 permits the ree turning of the holder.
When the machine is used in sharpening a within a blade holder or clip 34 formed of sheet metal with a rounded edge portion or back to fit within the spring clips 27 and firmly hold the thin metal blade in proper position for engagement with the rolls 15. This clip 34- may be made in any suitable manner for firmly holding the blade and forms no part of this invention.
In operating the machine, the operator will remove the pin 32 and slip the blade holder from its supporting pin The blade 19 of the razor or the clip with a safety razor blade engaged therein, may then be pushed endwise between the jaws 27 of the holder and the holder then :reengaged with its supporting pin 20. The support is then adjusted vertically by means of the screw 23 to bring the lower edge of the blade in the horizontal plane of the axes of the rolls 15. The blade may be tiltcd slightly between the jaws 27, said jaws being adaptedperfectly even contact may thus be' secured between the blade and the rolls. After the blade has been properly position ed, the crank is turned and rotary motion is imparted to the rolls. At the same time the cams no eases 13 are alternately brought into engagement with the sides of the arm 28 and thus the blade holder with the blade in position. therein is turned upon the supporting pin 20, first in one direction and then in the other to bring the edge of the blade into engagement first with orient the abrading rolls and then the other, the turning of the crank being continued until the blade is sharpened. The abrading sheath or cover for each roll may be of a material which will. act to hone the blade or of a material which will give a stropping action and if found desirable rolls with diilerent abrading sheaths may be pro vided so that a pair of honing rolls may be taken off and a pair of stroppingrolls put in their place. The swing of the blade holder may be increased or decreased by means of the screw 20 to give the desired contact between the blade and the rolls.
Obviously changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention and I do not limit myself to the particular form or arrangement shown.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim is l. A machine of the type described cbm- U prising a frame, disks pivoted in said frame and flush with the inner side thereof, shafts integral with said disks, abrading rolls detachably mounted on said shafts, means on said shafts between said disks and the'inner' a razor blade in the pass of said rolls, means 7 carried by said blade holder and actuated by the turning of the rolls for swinging the holder to bring the blade alternately into contact with each of the rolls, and means carried by said frame for imparting move-- ment to said cams.
3. In a razor blade stropping and honing machine, spaced parallel abrading rolls having inner ends thereof pivotally supported whereby the outer ends of said rolls can be swung in a horizontal plane, a blade holder extending longitudinally of said rolls, cams at the inner ends of said rolls for simultaneously imparting movement to said rolls and to said blade holder, and a train of gears for imparting movement to said came.

In a razor blade stropping and honing machine, a frame, pivoted disks carried thereby non-rotat ble shafts carried by said disks and capable of having the outer ends thereof separated, abrading rolls revolubly mounted upon the said shafts, means for detachably holding the rolls thereon, an adjustable supporting pin carried by said frame, a blade holder pivotally mounted u on said pin, and a depending armprovided with adjustable means extending adjacent to said rolls to be operated by the turning of said'jrolls to swing said holder and alternately bring ablade carried thereby into engagement with adjacent sides of said rolls.

The combination with a frame, of nonrotatable shafts having inner ends thereof pivotally supported'by said frame whereby the outer ends of said shafts can be swung in a horizontal plane, means carried by "said frame for locking said non-rotatable shafts in parallelism, abrading rolls revolubly mountedupon said shafts, revoluble camsarranged upon said shafts between said rolls and said rame adapted to impart movement to saidrolls in opposite direction, a blade holder pivotally supported above the pass betweensaid rolls, a depending arm carried by said blade holder and having adjustable means adapted to be engaged by said cams whereby said blade holder is swung toward adjacent sides of said rolls, and means carried by said frame for iniparting movement to said cams.
8. In a machine of thecharacter described,
the combination of'a supporting post, supporting members pivotally attached to the post to turn upon a vertical axis, non-rotatable shafts fixed at one'end to said supporting members and extending horizontally therefrom, means for adjusting and holding the supporting members in their adjusted positions" to swing the free ends of the shafts toward and from each other, abrading rolls upon the shafts, a blade holder pivotally supported in the vertical plane of the space between therolls, and means for turning the rolls and swinging the holder. v
