Be it known that I, SAMUEL A. Gonnnnno, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in New York, in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cutting-Oil" i\.ttaeh ments for Machines for Making Corrugated Cardboard, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to furnish to manufacturers of corrugated cardboard an attachment for cardboard-making 1na chines by which blanks of corrugated board of the required length are autonnilically cut oil in a quick and reliable manner and for this purpose the invention consists of a cutting-oft" attachment for corrugated cardboard making machines which comprises a set of feed and guide rollers for the cardbeard, laterally movable guide-plates for the board, means for actuating said guideplates at the proper time, an adjustable stopgagc, a verticallyreciprocating knife for cutting off the proper length of blanks and a lever mechanism interposed by the stopgage and the teed-rollers for automatically interrupting the feed-motion of the cardboard to the cutting-knife and returning the guide-plates and the stop-gage into normal position.
T he invention consists further of certain details of construction which will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.

In line with the horizontal portions of the s1ipporting-frame f" and symmetrically with the longitudinal axis of the cardboard making machine is arranged a stop-gage (Z, which is adjustably applied to a center-rod d that is pivoted at its outermost end to a suspension rod (Z which is pivoted at its upper end to ears of attached to the ceiling or other support. The opposite or inner end of the center rod (Z is pivoted to a short crank-arm (l at the center of a transverse rock-shaft (F which is supported in bracket bearings c on the uprights f of the supporting-frame f. As soon as the blank of corrugated cardboard which is cut off is delivered to the pile, the guideplates 71 are returned into their horizontal position so as to receive the next length of cardboard fed forward from the cardboard machine. The dropping of the blank releases also the stop-gage cl and permits it to return into vertical position while the cutting knife is returned into raised position by the remeshing of the clutch with the driving-shaft S and the return of the intermediate parts of the clutch-unmeshing mechanism into their normal position, shown in Fig. 1, and reengagement of the lever (Z with the cam (Z ready for the next cuttingoff action of the knife. The return-motion of the intermediate clutch-releasing levermechanism is assisted by the tension of the helical spring (2 on the slide-rod (Z simultaneously with the return-motion imparted to the guide-frame of the cutting knife by the roller 0 cams 7c and connecting-rods lVith each full rotation of the driving shaft the cardboard is fed forward beyond the cutting knife for the required length until it strikes the stop-gage, which in.- stantly releases the intermediate levermechanism between the releasing cam of the stop-gage and the driving gear of the feed-rollers, so as to arrest the motion of the same while the stop-device of the knife actuating-mechanism is released and the latter reciprocated for cutting off the blank. Simultaneously the guide-plates for the blank are oscillated and the blank dropped clear of the same, the parts are then returned to their former or normal position and actuated by the next rotation of the driving shaft and so on until the required number of blanks of a certain width and length is obtained.
The intermittent stopping of the feedmotion of the cardboard, together with the actuation of the cutting-knife, when the cardboard arrives against the stop-gage (Z, by which the actuation of the intermediate lever mechanism, the ungearing of the feed.- rollers and the downward motion of the cutting knife are produced, permits the automatic cutting-olf of the blanks of cardboard of any desired length as the same is fed from the cardboard machine, so that the blanks of the required size are obtained as the corrugated cardboard is delivered from the machine, and thereby a considerable saving in the manufacture of boxes, wrappers and other articles from corrugated cardboard is obtained.
I claim:
1. A cutting-oil attachment for machines for making corrugated cardboard, comprising intermittentlyiotaated feed-rollers, spaced guide-plates for the cardboard, bearings laterally and independently adj ustable, for supporting said guide-plates, means for oscillating said. guide-plates, a stop-gage suspended in the path of the cardboard, means between the stop-gage and the driving mechanism of the feed-rollers :lor interrupting the motion of the same, and a vertically-reciprocating euttingkni'le a dapted to cut off the proper length of cardboard as soon as it :forms contact with the stop gage.
2, A cutting-oft attachment tor machines for making corrugated cardboard, comprising intermittently actuated :leed rollers, spaced guide-plates for the cardboard, bearings laterally and independently adjustable for suspending the guide-plates, means tor oscillating said guide p-lates in lateral direction, a stop-gage suspended in the path of the cardboard, means between the stop-gage and the driving mechanism of the feedrollers :tor interrupting the motion of the same, a vertically guided cutting-knife adapted to cut ott the proper size of cardboard as soon as the same terms contact with the stop gage, means for intermittently reciprocating the cutting-knife, a stop de vice for the cutting knife and means for returning the stopping means of the :teedrollers and ot the cutting knife into their normal position for the next actuation of the same.
3.
