To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, MICHELE LUCCHESE, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Antonio, in the county of Bexar and State of rlexas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Boot-Tree Formers, of

rlhis invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in boot tree formers and the object of the invention is to provide s through the perforation of a nut 20 which a simplified and improved construction of boot tree former in which a minimum number of parts are employed.

The inif'ention includes a pair of former elements 1 and 2, which are provided with longitudinal grooves 3 and 4 respectively. rlhe grooves i and 4 communicate with enlarged cut-out portions 5 and 6 in which metal plates 7 and S are inset and secured by means of screws 9. By reference to FU. 1 it will. be seen that when the elements 1 and 2 are in their normal positions in which the grooves 3 and 4 face each other, the latter coiijointly forming an enlarged central recess in which thc expanding means is disposed. The expanding means consists of a central member Si) formed on its opposite` sides with tenons 10 which latter are adapted to enter the grooves 2E and 4 to thereby relate the parts in a manner shown in Fig. 1. The central member 9 is formed with a longitudinal perforation in which is received a rod 11, the rod 11 having a collar 12 rigidly secured thereto, and having its lower end threaded as at 13 and having a nut 14 mounted thereon.

Toggle links or levers 17 connect the nut 14 to the collar 15. The elbows of the levers or links 17 abut the metal plates 7 and 8 whereby when the rod 11 is rotated in a direction to move the nut 14 upwardly Specification of Letters Patent.

on the rod 11 the elbows of the toggle links will, by reason of engaging with the metal plates 7 and 8, force the latter outwardly in opposite directions thereby spreading the former elements 1 and 2.
By reference to Fig. 3 it will be seen that member Si), the same being for engagement with the inner end of a threaded rod 19, the rod 19 having its threaded end passed is rigidly secured to the former element l, whereby when the rod 19 is rotated the expanding member 9 and the former element 2 will be moved outwardly away from the former element 1. The foot part 21 is pivoted as at 22 to the former element 1.
In operation it will be seen that by rotating the rod 19 the free end of the same will engage the metal plate 1S of the expanding member 9 and will move the elements 1 and 2 apart at their upper ends, thus stretching the boot at the top. By rotating the rod 11 the toggle levers 17 will be moved outwardly, and by engagement with the metal plates T and 8 carried by the elements 1 and 2 respectively, the boot will be formed and stretched in an obvious manner.
That is claimed is:
A boot tree former including a central expanding member having an intermediate main opening and also having a second opening located at one end of the main opening and connected to the latter by contracted openings, a former element on each side of the said central member, a metal plate carried by each element on its inner face and arranged opposite to the sides of said opening, a rotatable rod having a lower threaded end rotatably carried by said expanding member, a nut threaded on` said lower end of the rod and rigidly held in the second opening which latter is provided to receive the nut, a collar rigid on the rod, a second collar engaging one end of the rigid collar, a pin engaging the second collar beneath the latter, and toggle links in said opening of the expanding member pivoted together at their inner ends and having their outer ends pivoted to the nut and the second-named collar, t-he elbows of said links extending outwardly on opposite sides of the expanding member and being for engagement with said metal plates, said links operating through the main and second i my hand in presence of `two subecrbug openngs" and ulSo through the1 cout'raotec Witnesses'. o enin s which connect the Sac main une sgcondgopenngs, the upper 'end of said rod LUCCHESE' 5 extending through the top end of the ex- 5 Vtnessves:
