'Be it known .that,I, ALPHONSE BAzIN, a German citizen of the -United States, residing at Swampscott, in thecounty `of vEssex and Stateof Massachusetts, haveinvented new and useful Improvements in- Nut-Locks, of which thefollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in locking devicesby which a nut is held from turning or jarring loose from a bolt to which it is applied, and the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and falling within the scope of the appended' claim.

The plate embodies-what may be termed arounded head 4, which is formed with a polygl'onal opening, `and the -wallsprovided by tie opening are formed with depressions or notches 5, whereby the plate .may 4be arrangedl upon various sizes and shapes of nuts. The plate 3 is constructed from a flat strip of resilient vmaterial and its portion extending'from its head 4 is formed with a depression 6 which is centrally provided with a slot 7 ,the said slot opening at one side of the plate 3; Adapted to be received within the depress vsion '6 is aheaded screw-8, the threaded shank of the screwpassing between the walls formed by the sl0ts-7 so as to permit of its head tightly compressing against the inner wall formed by the depression 6. It will be noted that the depression is arranged concentric of the bolt 1,'and that its opposite end walls are rounded, the end walls ardenkst#l this pstent may bs obtsixied tor ranged adjacent the entrance of the slot 7 being intersected by the said slot, and the said ends contact with the head to prevent fthe plate being accidentally removed from the nut.. However, when-it is desired. to remove the pla-te without removing the screw 8, the screw may beloosened sufficient to raise its head above the depression 6 and the platemay. ,then be turnedupon and with the nut to the position illustrated in Fig. 3,
and an outwardmovement of the plate will remove the same from thev nut. l The plate may be employed in. lieuof a bwrench for removing the n'ut from the bolt, in which instance the screw 8 is entirely withdrawn,
and the plate, still engagingwith the nut,
is rotated in an unscrew'ing` direction, and
to facilitate such removal of the nut bythe Y plate, any instrument suchas an .ordinary nail punch or the-like mayl Lbe inserted within the slot 7 .t0` .contact with the. inner wall of the sa1d`slot,the said instrument thus serving as a handle for the plate. A.
