To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MAXIMILIAN ROBERT LAWRENCE, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and residing at Manchester, in the county of Lancashir'e, England, motor-car dealer, have inventedcertain new and use ful Improvements in Carbureters for Internal-Combu'stion Engines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to carbureters for internalcomb'ustion engines of the type in which air, which'passes transversely across the liquid fuel supply inlet, and the liquid fuel supply, is controlled by a weight valve which operates in an inclined direction and is constantly under the influence of the en-' gine suction through the medium of a flexi.-.-
ble device operating on the bellows principle; and has for its objects ,to avoid any risk of air from the outside being drawn into the interior of the said flexible device, and to facilitate the assembling of parts of the apparatus.
In order that the invention may be elearl understood, I will describe the same by re erence to th accompanying drawing.
In this drawing, A is -the carbureting chamber, B the weight valve which is carried to move in an inclined direction, and besides controlling the supply of air which enters the air inlet a, carries at its lower end a needle valve C which controls the supply of liquid fuel through the nozzle C. The valve B is fixed on the lower end of a valve-stalk BQ'which is just a, sliding fit through the base I) of a chamberl) within which is contained a bellows device E' through the medium of whiclrthe valve B is influenced b the suction o the engine, The stalk B ias an axial passage-way b which is open at its outer end to the interior of the bellows E, and at its inner end com municates' with a transverse [passage 6 formed in the valve These passage-ways form the sole means of communication between the interior of the bellows device E and the carbureting chamber A. The inner end of the flexible Wall 6 of the bellows device is securely fixed, in an air-tight manner, around a. disk-shaped end of the stalk B and the outer end of such wall s correspondingly fixed in relation to the outer end of the chamber D which contains the bellows device. The cover, constituted by the wall al and end 03 of the chamber, may be held securely to the base D in'any convenient manner, such as by means of spring clips, of which one, F, is shown. The clip F is pivoted to a lug a of the carbureter casting, and is shaped to snap over a fillet or bead (Z which runs around the back end d of the cover.. Two of these clips would be "used in positions opposite toone another around the cover, and as the other clip could not conveniently be used in position opposite tot-he one shown, the clip which 1s shownwould be placed in a somewhat.

Having fully. described my invention, what I claim ters Patent, is:
1.-In a carbureter for an internal combustion engine, a weight valve operating in an inclined direction to control both the passage-way for, air whichpasses. transversely across the liquid fuel opening tothe mixing chamber, and the liquid fuel supply into such chamber, a flexible device of the bellows type connected 'withsaid valve and controlling the movements of said valve of the chamber and desire to secure by Letunder the influence of the engine suction, and a passage-way which passes through the inner end of the flexible device and through the weight valve and communicates with the versely across theliquid fuel opening to the mixing chamber, and the liquid fuel supply into such chamber, a flexible device of the bellows type connected with said valve and controlling the movements of said valve under the influence of the engine suction, a spindle of such valve which connects dimgctlywith the inner end of the said flexible device and. a passage-way which extends municates with the passage-way for comfrom the inner end of the flexible device through the weight valve spindle and combustible mixture to thefengine.
3 In a carbureter for an internal combustion engine, a weight valve operating inan inclined direction to control. both the passage-way for air which passes transversely across the liquid fuel opening to the mixing chamber and the liquid fuel supply into such chamber, a bellows device connected with said valve and'controlling the movements of 'said valve'under the influence of the engine suction, a passage-way which extends from the inner end of the bellows device and communicates Withthe passage way for the combustible mixture to the engine and a casing which surrounds the bellows device. and is formed with the back end and wall integral with one another and is removably clamped down around a fixed base.
