Application filed May 6, 1913. Serial No. 765,885.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that L-Nonrmin D. UR U- HART, a citizen of the United States, residing atGlenwood Springs, in-the county of Garfield and State of Colorado, have in- "vented new and useful Improvements in Renewable Cartridge-Fuses, of which the following is a specification.
' ready renewal of the fuse strip when desired without the use. of too-ls.
The main object of the present invention is the provision of a cartridge fuse in which the contact element of the {fuse is utilized as a means for fixing the fuse strip in place within the casing, whereby to permit ready renewal of the fuse strip when necessary with a minimum of labor and time.
The invention in its preferred form of details will be described in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in 'which:. I
' Figure I is a perspective view of the improved cartridge fuse showing the same of the blade connection type. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal central section of the same. Fig. 3, a perspective view of one of the contact members. Fig. 4, a perspective view of the end of the case. Fig. 5, a perspective view showing the type of fuse clamp used in the ferrule connector cartridge fuse.
\Vith particular reference to. theaccompanying drawings, the improved cartridge priate metal, as copper, centrally bent to form spaced longitudinally extending leaves 4 which together form the blade for connecting the fuse in circuit. At the inner terminals of the blade portions the strip'is bent laterally in return sections 5 which sections are respectively on divergent lines with relation to the adjacent leaf of the (2186. member provides an extended. contact blade Contact blade. The section 5 extends a comparatively short distance lengthwise the blade and the strip is then bent laterally to form sections 6, said sections 6 having an edge conformation and a size corresponding to the exterior diameter of the end of the As thus constructed the contact having formed at its lower end a cover plate for the end of the casing, and diametrically of said cover plate with an inwardly extending V-shaped extension adapted to fit within the V-shaped depressions 3 in the ends of the case. As previously stated the leaves forming the contacted blade are 'normally spaced a slight distance apart, and the normal transverse dimension of the V- shaped extension of the contact blade is such that when said extension rests within the V-shaped depressions, that part of the cover blade is spaced from the end of-the case. By this means when the cover is forced down on to the end-of the case the V-shaped extension of the contact blade will be forced into the depressions in the end of the case with the cffectto force the leaves of the contact-blade together.
In conjunction with the contact member I use a cap 8 interiorly threaded for connection with the exterior threads 2 of the case, said cap havinganannular inwardly extending flange 9 adapted when the cap is in place to overlie and bear upon the covered sections of the contact member.
It is'understood that the contact members and caps are duplicated at the respective ends of the case, and the fuse strip 10 is ap plied. by loosely inserting the ends thereof betwzen the leaves of the contact members and forcing the caps into applied positions.
vide spaced leavesto receive; and grip thefuse strip when the parts are connected as previously described, as shown at 11.
It is of course to be understood that I contemplate theuse of any type of fuse or any type of protecting. filling which may be found necessary .01; desirable, the essential feature of the present invention residing in the construction whereby a blown strip may be removed and replaced in a simple and expeditious manner without the use of tools.
What is claimed as new, is:-
1. The combination with a cartridge fuse case formed with-V-shaped depressions, of a coi'itact member including normally spaced leaves; and the V-shaped extension formed in part on each leaf and a cap engaging the case and forcing said V-shaped extensions into the depressions in the case.
2. The combination with a cartridge fuse case having V-shaped depressions formed therein, of a contact member including a single strip bent to form normally spaced leaves, projected from the ends of the leaves together form a V-shaped extension and projected laterally beyond the extension to form case closing sections, and a cap cooperating with the case to force the extensions of the contact member into the depressions of the case.
3. A contact member for cartridge fuse iases constructed of a single strip of material formed to provide a contacting blade including spaced parallel leaves, the strip at the inner ends of'the blade being projected on a line divergent to each other to form a V-shaped extension thestrip beyond the outer ends of the divergent sections being projected laterally and together having an edge conformation and size to correspond to that of the case with which the member is to be used. c
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
