To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Fruits SIWAK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clifton Heights, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in \Vheel-Mounts, of which the following is a specification. 1
My invention relates to improvements in wheel mounts, and more Particularly to an improved construction of pole which provides an improved mounting for a trolley wheel allowing the trolley to swing and to move longitudinally with relation to the pole, so as to easily follow all of the lines and curves of the wire without jumping therefrom.
A further object is to provide an improved device of this character which is sensitive in its movements, so that it will be elastically held in contact with the wire at any position to which it may move, either laterally or longitudinally with relation to the pole to prevent the annoyance of the wheel umping from the wire, as well as prevent injury which frequently occurs from such cause.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel. features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims. 1

1 represents my improved trolley pole which is provided near its upper or free end with a transverse recess 2 extending from side to side of the pole, and open to the rear of the pole. This recess 2 is connected by a longitudinal groove 3 with a keystone shaped recess 1 below the said recess 2 and above the recess 2 the pole 1 has a longitudinal recess 5 with rearwardly projecting ears 6, 6, at opposite sides thereof. These ears 6, 6, have beveled or inclined ends 7 Specification of Letters Patent.

and the said recesses 5 and 1 and groove 3 conform in shape to enlargements S, 9, and
10 respectively, integral with a rear plate 11, so that when the latter is assembled, against the rear face of polel, the several enlargements and recesses form a firm inter lock preventing any possibility of lateral displacement of the plate. The enlargement 8, at its lower wider end, is formed with a curved slot 12 concentric with a pivot pin 13 which projects through the plate 11, enlargement 8, and pole 1, and is secured in any approved manner.
A trolley fork 15 supports a trolley wheel 16 at one end, and between its ends is pro vided with a slot 17 receiving the pin 13.
The inner end of this trolley fork 15 is prothe slot 17, the trolley fork 15 is permitted longitudinal movement as well as lateral swinging movement, so that the trolley wheel 16 can follow all of the varying positions of the trolley wire 2 1 without jumping therefrom.
Pins 25 are projected through openings 26 in the plate 11, and through openings 27 in pole 1, and are secured by cotter pins 28. These pins 25 are grooved in their heads 29, and in said grooved heads, a fiat spring 30 is secured. The free end of this fiat spring 30 project through a staple 31 secured to segment 18 and projecting through the curved slot 12 in plate 11. The spring 30 therefore tends to maintain the trolley fork 15 in normal position and return it to such position when swung laterally, while the spring 20 exerts a longitudinal pressure on the fork 15 and normally holds the latter in its operative position, yet allows the same to be moved in the opposite direction to compensate for various positions of the wire.
To strengthen the connection between the fork and the pole, I provide a U-shaped strap 32 which is located in a recess 33 in enlargement 8, and through which strap the pivot pin 13 above referred to is positioned.
The ends of this strap 32 extend around the sides of the pole and through a cross bar 83, said cross bar located against the front or upper face of the trolley pole and the intermediate portion of said strap 32, loeated in recesses 34: in enlargement 7. The ends of the strap may, of course, be secured in various ways, and l have illustrated for the purpose, nuts 35 screwed onto the ends of the straps and against the bar 38.
To limit the outward movement of the fork 15, a shoulder 86 is provided on the inner end thereof which rides against a curved wall 37 on pole 1.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described witnout departing from my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. The combination with a pole, of a fork having slot and pin connection between its ends with the pole, a wheel carried by the outer end of said fork, a segment on the inner end of said fork, elastic means pressing against said segment, and a spring secured to the pole and connected to the seg ment, substantially as described.
2. The combination with a pole, of a fork having slot and pin connection between its nds with the pole, a wheel carried by the outer end of said fork, a curved segment on the inner end of said fork, a spring-pressed block bearing against the segment, and a straight spring secured to the pole and connected to the segment, substantially as described.
3. The combination with a pole having recesses therein at its free end on its rear face, of a plate covering said recesses and having a curved slot therein, a pivot pin projecting through the plate and pole at its free end, a trolley fork having a longitudinal slot therein through which said pin is projected, a wheel carried by the free end of said fork, a curved segment on the inner end of said fork, a spring-pressed device engaging the segment and exerting outward pressure thereupon, a straight spring secured to the pole, and a device on the segment projecting through the slot in the plate and through which device said last-mentioned spring is projected, substantially as described.
4. The combination with a trolley pole having recesses in its rear face, of a longitudinally and laterally swinging trolley fork mounted in. said. recesses, a spring exerting outward pressure on said trolley fork, a seconcspring tending to center the trolley fork with relation to the pole, and pins projected through the plate and the pole, and to which said last-mentioned spring is secured, substantially as described.
5. he combination with a trolley pole having recesses in its rear face, of a longitudinally and laterally swinging trolley fork mounted in said recesses, a spring exerting out-ward pressure on said trolley fork, a second spring tending to center the trolley fork with relation to the pole, pins proj ected through the plate and the pole, and to which said last-1nentioned spring is secured, and a U-shaped strap positioned around the fork and pole, substantially as described.
