DISK-DRILL SEEDING-MACHINE.

To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE B. RownLL, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Beaver Dam, in the county of Dodge and State of ll isconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Disk-Drill Seeding-Machines; and T do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
My invention consists in what is herein particularly set forth with reference to the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims of this specification, its principal objects being exclusion of dust from between the stationary hubs and revolving disks of disk-drill seeding machines, and to prevent slipping of said hubs in their supports.
Figure l of the drawings represents a sectional view of a fragment of a disk-drill seeder, the plane of the section being indicated by line 11 in Figs. 2 and 3; Fig. 2, a side elevation of the same partly in section on the plane indicated by line 22 in Fig. 1; Fig. 8, a similar view partly in section on the plane indicated by line 33 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 4, a detail section indicated by line 4% in Fig. 3.
Referring by numerals to the drawings, 5 indicates a fragment of a boot of a diskdrill seeding machine and 6 an arm of the same, this arm being provided with an angular opening engaged by a matching angular reduced projection 7 of a hub 8. Opposite sides of the hub are slabbed for a portion of its length to have angular fit in a dust-cap 9, facing shoulders S of said hub that result from the slabbing of the same. Slipped on the hub against a circular and dished flange 10 of the same is a furrowopening disk 11 that faces the dust-cap 9 and is free to revolve, and a carriage-bolt 12 engaging said hub extends beyond the same through a washer 18 and a nut 14:, the washer being opposed to the boot-arm aforesaid. However it is within the scope of my invention, as herein claimed, to adapt the boot-arm to the employment of a pair of disks, in which case the bolt will be sufliciently long to extend through the hubs of both disks similar to what is customary practice in the art to which my invention relates.

of the cap 9, said flange being annularly grooved to engage the spring bv which said cap is held on the hub 8 tight against the disk 11 to exclude dust from between said hub and said disk. Bolted on the other side of the disk is the usual flanged cap 16 that incloses the flanged end of the hub and has a. central opening closed by a flanged screwplug 17, this opening being provided to permit of access to the head of the bolt 12 aforesaid.
The boot-arm 6 is provided with side seats 18 for the studs 9 of the hub, these seats being in opposite series to provide for forward adjustment of a worn disk subsequent to the removal of some or all of a thin web 18" of said arm. The studs engaging a pair of the seats therefor prevent the hub from slipping in the angular opening of the bootarm with which it is engaged.-
I claim:
1. The combination in a disk-drill seeding machine of a flanged hub having an angular projection, slabbed sides and angular shoulders; a disk loose on the hub in opposition to the flange thereof, a flanged dust-cap having slip-fit on the slabbed portion of the hub against the disk and opposite the hub-shoulders, a support in which spring under tension between said supportand the dust-cap flange.
2. The combination in a disk-drill seeding machine of a flanged hub having an angular projection, slabbed sides and angular shoulders; a disk loose on the hub in opposition to the flange thereof, a grooved flanged dust-cap having slip-fit on the slabbed portion of the hub and provided with inwardly extending angular lugs facing the hub-shoulders, a support in which the angular projection of the hub has match fit, means for securing the hub in connection with the support, and a spiral-spring seated in the flange-groove of the dust cap under tension between it and said support.
3. The combination in a disk-drill seeding machine of a flanged hub having a reduced angular projection and diametrically opposite forward studs, a disk loose on the hub in opposition to the flange thereof, a support in which the angular projection of the hub has match-fit and which is provided with side seats for the hub-studs, and means for securing said hub in connection With the support.
The combination in a disk-drill seeding machine of a flanged hub having a reduced angular projection and diametrically opposite forward studs, a disk loose on the hub in opposition to the flange thereof, a support in which the angular projection of the hub has match-fit adjacent to a Web thereof, the support being provided with a plurality of side seats for each hub-stud to provide for adjustment of said hub upon removal of some or all of said Web; and means for securing said hub in connection with said support.
5. The combination in a disk-drill seeding machine of a flanged hub having a reduced angular projection and diametrically opposite forward studs, a disk loose on the hub in opposition to the flange thereof, means for excluding dust from between the hub and disk, a support in which the angular projection of the hub has match-fit and which is provided with side seats for the hub-studs, and means for securing said hub in connection with the support.
