HENRY MARTIN FEDDERSON, OF PETALUMA, CALIFORNIA.
EGG-CLEANING MACHINE.
To all whom, it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY MARTIN FED- nnnsoN, a citizen of the United States, resid ing at Petaluma, in the county of Sonoma and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Egg-Cleaning Machines, of which the following is a speci fication.
This invention relates to a machine for cleaning eggs and has for an object to provide a machine of this character which will include a cleaning element and means for rotating and for tilting the element whereby it may be partly submerged in a body of water and thereby saturated to permit the eggs to be thoroughly washed and scrubbed when the elment is revolved.
In the drawing forming a portion of this application and in which like letters of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :Figure 1 is a vertical section through the machine. Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
The machine preferably comprises a bracket 1 which is provided with a main body portion 2 and branch clamping extensions 3 and 4, the former being disposed substantially at an obtuse angle to the plane of the main body of the bracket whereby when the extensions 3 and at are placed in embracing or clamping engagement upon a table or like support 5 the device will extend substantially diagonally therefrom. The lower extension t is provided with a clamping screw 6 which may be engaged beneath the top of the table 5, while the extension 3 is provided with a pair of clamping screws 7 that may be adjusted and brought into any required engagement with the top of the table 5 to effect any desired tilt of the bracket for a purpose to be hereinafter described. At the upper end the bracket supports a bearing 8 in which is revolubly mounted a driven brush shaft 9. At one end this shaft has keyed thereto a small gear wheel 10 which is in mesh with a larger gear wheel 11 on a driven shaft 12, the latter being journaled in suitable bearings 13 on the bracket as shown. The large driven gear supports a crank handle let which may Specification of Letters Patent.

be engaged with the hand and thereby revolved manually to transmit motion to the brush shaft. The brush 15 includes a head 16 of substantially hemispherical form, the same being hollow and having secured to its walls bristles 17 that are relatively associated that their cleaning ends present a concavity 18 for the reception of a portion of an egg. At one end the brush head has secured thereto an attaching socket 19 which is adapted to receive the brush shaft. A set screw 20 on the socket is adjustable whereby it may be engaged with the brush shaft so as to effectually hold the brush thereon and demand the rotation of the same therewith. Shifting the angle of the bracket 1 changes the angle of the brush shaft above the top of the table 5 whereby any desired portion of the brush at any point below the .plane of the brush shaft may be submerged in a body of water. As for illustration eggs to be cleaned are placed in a pan 21 as shown in Fig. 1. The eggs are taken singly in the hand of the operator and they are manipulated whereby any portion of the egg may be extended into the socket defined by the cleaning extremities of the brush bristles, the bristles being saturated with water effectually assists in the scrubbing action of the brush in relieving the shells of the eggs of foreign particles and restores them to a perfectly clean condition.
I claim V A bracket for a machine of the character described comprising a bracket including a main body portion inclined with relation to the vertical, a horizontally disposed extension formed on said body portion at a point substantially medially thereof, another extension formed on the lower end of said body portion and inclining downwardly with relation to the first named extension, and clamping means carried by said first and last named extensions.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
