ments in scrubbing devices and relates more proceeds,
particularly to those of the fountain type wherein a stream of water may be forced through a hollow body portion and onto a cleaning cloth secured at the end thereof.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a scrubbing device of this type, which shall be ofextremely simple construction, which may be easily cleaned, and which will make it possible to wash dishes, pans, etc., without wetting the hands of the operator.
The invention also aims to generally improve devices of this nature, to render them more useful, efiicient, and commercially desirable.
\Vith these and other objects in view, as will become more apparent as the description the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a dish washer constructed in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is an end view thereof, Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view, Fig. 4 is a fragmentary longitudinal sectional view, showing the tube in its operative position, Fig. 5 is a section taken on the plane of line 5-5 of Fig.3, and, Fig. 6 is a detail perspective view of one end of my improved washer, showing a cloth secured thereto.
Referring in detail to the drawings by numerals, 1O designates, generally, a funnelshaped body, having a neck 11 continuing from the smaller end thereof. A perforated semispherical head 12 is fitted within the larger end of the body 10 and bears against a rubber gasket 13. The edge of the head is headed, as indicated at 14, for the purpose the same. A cloth 16-may be secured to the head 12 by means of a clamping ring 17 of a smaller diameter than said head, and havmg secured to it at diametrically opposite by means of a suitablefastener 20 which the strap.
21 designates a handle formed preferably of wood and having its outer end reduced, as indicated at 22, and formed with the flanges 23. A flexible tube 24. is fitted over the neck 11 of the body and a clamping ring clamps the same together with the neck 11, firmly upon the reduced portion of the handle.
To Water through the tube, I employ a yoke 26 which surrounds said tube and the handle. An expansive spiral spring 27 is fixed to the handle and yoke, as clearly shown in the drawings, and holds the former normally in clamping engagement with the tube, whereby the same is closed. A lever 28 is pivoted intermediate its ends within a slot 29 formed in the handle and is secured at one end. to said yoke.
In assembling the device for use, pieces of soap are first placed within the body 1! then the head 12 is fitted within the outer end of said body and clamped therein by means of the ring 17 and its co-acting parts, it being understood that the cloth 16 is placed around the head before applying the clamping means. The tube 2% is then fitted on the neck, and said tube and neck secured to the handle by means of the split clamping ring 25.
It will be seen that the parts of the device may be very quickly and easily assembled and as easily disconnected so that the article may be conveniently cleaned.
The disk 15 prevents the pieces of soap clogging the perforations in the head 12.
When in use, the tube 24 is secured to a faucet or other suitable water supply and the flow of water therethrough may be easily controlled by the lever 28. When said lever is drawn against the handle-the yoke is removed from clamping engagement with the tube, permitting the water to flow into the body and out through the head onto the cloth points, the arms 18. The inner ends of these arms are connected to a strap 19 which cncircles the body 10, which is secured thereon 25 surrounds the end of the tube 24: and
l of retaining a perforated disk 15 within I passes through the parallel end portions of provide for controlling the flow of and article being cleaned. As soon as pressure is released from the lever 28, the spring 27 draws the yoke against the handle and closes the passage through the tube. I have found that a steady flow of water through the soap chamber is. not productive of a very large quantity of soap suds but that when the water is caused to flow through the soap chamber in spurts, it takes up a relatively large amount of soap and produces a large quantity of soap suds. The spring .pressed yoke 26 may be actuated so as to I open and close the passage through the tube and thus cause the water to spurt through the soap chamber in a very effective manner.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple, efficient, and convenient dish washer, which is so constructed as to permit soapy water being forced onto a cloth or other suitable material and the articles to be cleaned.
It is to be understood that while I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish. to be limited to this exact construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, but may change the shape and construction of the various parts without'departing from the scope and spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is l. A device of the character described, including a funnel shaped member adapted to form a soap chamber, a perforated semispherical head fitted within the large end of the body member, means for directing water into the body member through the small end thereof, a ring surrounding said head, an adjustable band surrounding the body member, and arms connected to the band and ring, said ring serving to hold the head within the body member.
2. A device of the character described, including a body member through which water is adapted to flow, said body member being formed with a frusto conical portion, a perforated semispherical head-fitted within the large end of the frusto-conical portion, a cloth surrounding said head, and means for securing the head-and cloth in position, said means including a ring which holds the cloth in engagement with the head, a band surrounding the frusto-conical portion, and arms connecting the band and ring.
3. A washer of the character described, including a body member having a perforated head in one end thereof, a flexible tube fitted over the other end of the body member whereby water may be led therein, a handle extending in longitudinal alinement with the body member and projecting over that portion of the tube which surrounds the body member, and a clamping ring surrounding the handle, tube, and body portion.
4. A scrubbing device including a handle having a longitudinal slot extending therethrough, a hollow elongated body member projecting longitudinally from one end of the handle, said body member being open at both ends, a flexible tube surrounding the inner end of the body member and extending inwardly therefrom in the general direction of the handle, a yoke surrounding the handle and tube, a lever pivoted intermediate its ends within said slot and connected at its forward end to said yoke, and spring means for drawing the yoke toward the handle, whereby the passage through the tube is interrupted, a movement of the inner end of the lever toward the handle serving to release the yoke from clamping engagement with the tube.
5. A scrubbing device of the character described, comprising a funnel-shaped body portion forming a soap chamber, a perforated head closing the larger end thereof, a cloth, means for securing said cloth around said head, a handle, and a flexible tube secured to the smaller end of said body, whereby a stream of water may be directed therethrough.
6. A scrubbing device of the character described, comprising a funnel-shaped body forming a soap chamber, a perforated semispherical head fitted within the larger end thereof, a perforated disk secured within said head, a cloth, means for securing said cloth to the head, said means also serving to secure the head to the body, a flexible tube secured to the neck of the ffinnel, whereby a stream of water may be directed therein, a handle member, and means mounted thereon for interrupting the flow of Water through said tube.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES H. CLARK.
