* OF ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA.
LIQUID-FUEL BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 27, 1914.
T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VVAssILI Gouom, a
a subject of the Czar of Russia, and residing at VVassili Ostrow, 18 Linie, St. Petersburg,
Russia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Liquid-Fuel Burners,
of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to apparatus for burning liquid fuel in furnaces, of the type in which the fuel is received upon a rotating surface of a centrifugal sprayer, which is arranged in a casing to which air is supplied, the surface throwing the fuel off in the form of a spray by centrifugal action;
The present invention consists in an improved apparatus of this kind, in which the centrifugal sprayer is provided with a circumferential surface, as distinguished from a transverse surface, and the liquid fuel is introduced into the casing in such a manner as to impinge directly'upon this circumferential surface. The liquid fuel is preferably introduced into the pasin in a direction perpendicular to the axis 0 the sprayer.
In the accompanying drawings is illustrated by way of example one embodiment of the present invention.
- Figure 1 is an end elevation of the arrangement in partial section at AB of Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a plan. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevationat C-D of Fig. 4 looking toward the outlet. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation at G H looking toward the outlet. Fig. 4 is a section at E-F of Fig. 3.
1 is a casing tapering forwardly which can be located wit iin the firing space of a furnace. The casing 1 is closed at the rear end by means ofa dome 2 the end of which is closed by a grating 3. The dome supports a shaft 7 in suitable bearings 5 and 6, on which shaft are mounted rotating surfaces 11-12 to which the liquid fuel is supplied I through a'tube 13 provided with a cock 32. On rotation of the shaft 7 the liquid is vaporizing surface and vice versa.
thrown off tangentially from the surfaces 1112 and partly burnt While the unconsumed sprayed liquid particles arrive at the heatedv surfaces of the casing 1 and are vaporized. The smaller the distance between the vaporizing surface and the spraying device the smaller is the portion of the combustible whichis burnt on its way to It? e shaft 7 may be driven by means of a tur bine 9 located in the domeat the rear end with steam from a nozzle 1 1- at the end of a pipe 15 leading to a steam generating space 16. This latter is closed by means of a cover 17. The supply of water for the steam generator is effected through a pipe 20 with a cock 21.
The turbine wheel 8 is open at the center and in this opening 10 is formed a fan 10 for effecting the delivery of fresh air. The current of air is increased by a fan 11 which is arranged at the middle of the spraying device 11-12.
The adoption of fans renders the combustion entirely independent of the height of the chimney and thus allows the arrangement to be used in all cases where an artificial draft is indispensable or desirable.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A liquid fuel burner, comprising a casing, a rotating centrifugal sprayer in said casing, a turbine for driving said sprayer, located at a point distant therefrom, a central aperture in the rotor of said turbine, and a fan arranged therein for producing a draft through said casing.
2. A liquid fuel burner, comprising a combustion chamber, a rotating centrifugal sprayer in said combustion chamber, means for introducing liquid fuel to said sprayer, a turbine for driving said sprayer, a steam generating pocket located on the exterior of the wall of the combustion chamber adjacent the point at which the fuel is burned, and means for conducting the steam generated in said pocket. to said turbine, for driving the same.
3. A liquid fuel burner, comprising a casing, a rotating centrifugal sprayer in said casing, consisting of a plurality of plates which are of dished shape to form circum-, ferential surfaces, and means for introducing liquid fuel into said casing and causing it to impinge on said circumferential surfaces.
4.. A liquid fuel burner, comprising a combustion chamber, an annular centrifugal sprayer in said chamber, means for supplying liquid fuel to said sprayer, an annular steam turbine for rotating said sprayer, means associated with the combustion chamber for generating steam to drive said turbine, and a pair of fans, one of which is sprayer."
s t A; 1'? 'uicl fuel burner, comprising a cas- 1Q. J0me at the rear end thereof, a shaft mugged axially of the casing and supported 1:! bearings carried by said dome, an m nibui,.-,-i;'iirifugiil sprayer n'iounted on se elmjr, within the casing, in pipe for supplying ii nid fuel to said sprayer, a steam twhine he V311 an annular rotor on the other earl 01" eaid shaft Within said dome, a steam generating pocket in. the wullsof said casing, apipe forfcongiiietin steai'nfrom the pocket to the turbii'1e5'a an in the central opening of the turbine 'rgitOrfo1icreat-in a draft t-hrough'eaid casing, m1 higecond an arranged in the central openingkifthe centrifugal sprayer, for-increasing the draft.
