Description
J. JI H'ASZJ LIFE SAVING SUIT.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 1, 1912.
WITNESSES 8 Y E N R O T T A JOSEE JUIHASZ, 0F UNITY STATION, PENNSYLVANIA.
LIFE-SAVING SUIT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 27, 1914.
Application filed August 1, 1912. Serial No. 712,711.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnr (format, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Unity Station, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Life-Saving Suits, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a life saving suit, and my invention aims to provide a waterproof suit that can be easily placed upon the body to prevent the body from being injured by'floating ice, wreckage and other debris.
My invention further aims to provide a life saving suit that can be safely worn to maintain the body afloat until picked up by a life saving boat or other vessel.
My invention still further aims to accomplish the above results by a mechanical construction that is simple, durable, inexpensive manufacture and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.
The invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of a life saving suit in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a rear elevation of the same, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a portion of the suit.
A life saving suit in accordance with this invention comprises a body or jacket 1 that has integral trousers 2, said trousers having integral feet 3. Formed integral with the body or jacket 1 are arms at having gloves 5 and stitched or otherwise connected, as at 6 to the wrist portions of the arms i are straps 7 to be buckled to maintain the arms 4 in snug engagement with the arms of the body, preventing the arms from becoming inflated. Straps 8 are carried by the legs of the trousers 2 for the same purpose. The suit further includes a combined hood and shoulder covering element and which consists of an extension 13 at the front of the top of the body portion or jacket 1 and which terminates in a hood 9, provided with a sight opening 10, the latter being closed by a transparent plate 11. The hood 9 is contracted as at 12 to provide a neck and projecting from the front, at the lower end of said hood 9, is a shoulder covering member 13 provided with flaps 15 which are adapted .to extend around to the front of the extension 13, overlap each other and are secured together as at 16. The member 13 is provided with snap buttons or other fastening means, as at 14 for detachably connecting said member to the rear of the garment, a strap 17 is positioned around the contracted portion of the hood for maintaining the latteriin position.
The body or jacket 1 at the waist line has a life saving belt, comprising a case 18 filled with rubber 19 or other non-absorbent buoyant material. The life savingbelt can be secured to the body orjacket] 1 or detachably mounted thereon by straps and buckles 20. From the foregoing it will be observed that the body is inclosed by the suit and that the suit is practically water-proof. When made of light and durable rubber or other waterproof flexible material it can be easily fitted upon a body.
What I claim is A life saving suit formed from a single piece of impervious flexible material and including a jacket having projecting therefrom sleeves provided with gloves and further having projecting therefrom legs having foot coverings, straps, carried by said legs and sleeves for strapping them to the body of the wearer, an extension projecting from the top of said jacket, a hood carried by said extension and having a sight opening in the front thereof, a shoulder covering member depending from said hood and provided with a pair of flaps adapted to be secured together forwardly of said extension, said hood contracted to provide a neck portion, a strap.surrounding said neck portion, means for detachably connecting said memher to said jacket, and a life saving belt connected to the waist portion of the jacket.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
