COIN-Paciraemo HOLDER.
Patented Jan. 13, 1914.
Application filed .T une 7, 1912. Serial No. 702,150.
To all whom t may concern."
Be it known-that I, CHARLES S. BATDoiir, a citizen of the United Sta-tes, and resident of Brooklyn, county of Kings, State of New York, have invented a new and useful 1mprovemcnt in Coin-Packaging Holders; and -1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description' thereof.
My invention relates to an article paekag ing holder which is particularly adapted for holding an incomplete package Wrapper while `the latter is being filled with coins, or
holding the same with the coins contained therein while the ends of said wrapper are presented te a suitable inturning or crimping tool or machine for sealing the package.
The object of the invention is to provide a convenient tool or holderwithin which the coiled wrapper blank may be readily iIiserted and held while said coiled blank is filled with coin, said holder also having means to properly position the coins within said wrapper with respect to the opposite end edges ofthe coiled wrapper, so that said end edges may project at substantially equal distance beyond the end of the conta-ined stack whereby said projecting edges may be properly inturned or crimped from the outside faces of the end coins.
The device is particularly adapted for use .with a coin counting land stacking apparatus which is shown in my application Serial No. 727,219, tiled Got. 22, 1912,. and with a. crimper tool such shown in my application Serial 120.693,13?) tiled Japril 25, 1912.
rlhe invention consists in a Constrliction and arrangement of parts, the preferred enibodimont of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings. j t
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the holder; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sect-ion ot the sinne showing the wrapper therein lilled witji coin npropei.' position; and Fig. 3 is ai end View of the device shown in Fig. l.
ln the embodiment of my invention' herein selected for illustration, the. same consists ot' a cylindrical body portion 1 split at 2 at opposite sides to forni the expansible and contractible package holding fingers 23 and 4 whereby said holder lingers may be dra wn together upon the `wrapper after the latter is filled witli'eoin in order to hold said coin the inturning process. The adjustment of' these fingers 3 and 4 is effected by a threaded ring 5 engaging a threaded annular portion 6 of the body portion 1 of the holder.
1n order to properly position the stack of coins Within the wrapper blank so that the ends of the coin blank or wrapper tube may project beyond the ends of the stack of articles for permitting the crimping or inturningot such ends I provide the in'- terior of the holder with a stop head such as 7 having a stem 8 sliding'the amount of the bore 9 in the bottom of the holder. This stop head may be adjusted within the holder to accommodate stacks of coins oit diderent length, and to this end the stem 8 l is provided with a threaded aperture 1() to receive a locking screw ll passing through one of two or more openings such as 12 in the shank 13 of the holder.
As shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing the stop head? is adjusted for'posit-ioning a stack of coins or" given length lwithin the Wrapper so that the opposite ends of the Wrapper 2 will be equally distant from the outer faces ot' the end coins. It it is desired to manipulate a stack of greater length, this may be accoii'iplished by remov ing the screw 11 from the one aperture of the shank 13 and inserting it through the outer aperture to engage the threaded openr .ing 10 of the stop head stem.
The above described device atl'ords a convenient and Isecure means for holding a stack of coins while the ends of the wrapper are being crimped down thereon, or for holding the wrapper thereto while the Wrapper is being filled. l g
iihile I have described the particular forms of-iny invention, it is to be iiiider ati stood that the saine may be altered in details and in the relative arrangen'ient of partsv within the scope of the appended claims.
iVhat 1 clalin is:-
l. An article packaging holder comprising a cylindrical vcontractible body portion to hold a wrapper formed of rolled sheet material while the latter is being filled and having means to hold the filled wrapper (and the contents thereof) while the ends thereof are being inturned to seal the articles within the wrapper.
2. .iin article paikaging holder. comprising a substantially vcylindrical contractible body portion; having nieans for contracting and expanding the same, and having means to position a Wrapper therein, and
having a stop head Within said body portion to determine the position of the stack of articles relatively to the Wrapper tube held by said holder.
3. In an article packaging holder, a cylindrical contraetible body portion having a threaded ring surrounding the saine whereby said body portion may be contracted or permitted to expand [and having a stop shoulder to determine the position of a wrapper therein and an adjustable stop head at the inner end of said cylindrical body portion to determine the position of a stack of articles Within the Wrapper tube held in said holder.
In testimony whereof I, the said CHARLES S. BATDoRr, have hereunto set my hand.
CHARLES S. BATDORF.
