` of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented a new and V ticularly simp useful Panel-Board, of which the following y isa specification.
This inventionrelates to panel boards and has for-*its ob'ect the production of a parle and eicient electrical appliance and partsassociated therewith, tobe usedl in a panel board; and the invention consists in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.

17 and 18 are respectively pairs of screws extending through the terminals 11 and 14, respectively, from the front side of the panel board through the base 5 and into the -thickened raised ends of the conducting bars 2, 3, one member of each pair of screws 17 or :18 extending into one of the bars 2 and the other member of said pair of screws 17 or 18 extending into one of the bars 3.
19 is the rotary shank of the snap switch, the shank being located axially of the central-recess 6 and having two sets of switch arms or knives 20, 21 for coacting, respectively, with the terminals 11 and 14.
22 is a cup-shaped cap fitting over the base 5, and the terminals mounted thereon the cap being formed of insulation and having cutouts 23 in the edge of its open end for receiving the bars 2, 3, said edge of the cap `resting on the face of the base of the panel board and the side walls of the cutouts coacting with the edges of the bars 2i', S to prevent turning of the cap.
24 is a button or hand engaging iece threading on the portion of the shan 19 which extends through the opening 25 in the closed end of the cap 22., the button 24 also serving as a nut to hold the cap in position with its lower edge in engagement with the base of the panel board. The cap is also formed with a suitable sight opening 26 through which an indicator-associated with the switch and bearing the words Oil' and On may be readi The construction herein described is particularly advantageous in that the terminals of the switch are easily accessible upon vthe remoifal of the cap. Heretofore the base has been formed with recesses which do not open through the side faces of the base so that the terminals are only accessible from the top or upper side of the base of the switch; and the cap has heretofore been formed comparasol tively shallow and rested on the upper face of the base, such cap beine' formed of metal so that insulation had to be placed on the inner face of the cap. This construction 1s also advantageous because the great depth of the cap affords a large amount ofinsnlating lire proof surface, reducing to mm1- mum the fire hazard and the liability of 1njury to parties having access to this panelboard, and because after the removal of the cap the switch may be removed from, or replaced on, the front of the base of the panelboard and without access to the rear of such base.
' *What l claim is:
l. The combination with a panel. board having conducting bars; of an electrical appliance mounted on the panel. board comprising a base of insulation, terminals mounted en the base and being connected to the conducting bars, a switch comprising arms for corr' neet-ing oppesite terminals, and a cop o f 1nsulation iitting over the base, the terminals and the arms and entirely inclosing the same and engaging at its lower edge with the panel board, the switch also comprising a shank extending upwardly through the top ef the cap and having a handle at its outer end the handle also serving to hold the cap with its lower edge engaging the panel board, substantially as yand for the purpose described.
2. In a panel-board structure and in combination, a panel-board base, pairs of conducting bars spaced apart and secured to the face of said. base, opposing ends of the members of each pair being separated from each other and from the base, a switch-base of insulation supported on the said ends of said members, switch-members carried by the switch-base and electrically connected tc corresponding conducting bars and exposed at the outer end of said switch-base, a sta* tionary removable cap of insulation inclusing the switch-base and said switch members and having edge portions resting on the panel-board base between the pairs of conducting bars and adjacent side edges of said bars7 a shiftable switc -member also inclosed by the cap, a rotatable shank carrying the s hiftable switch-member and having a part extending through the cap, and an operating member mounted on said shank and coperating with the cap for holding it in place, substantially as and for the purpose described.
3. In a panel-board structure and in combination, a panel-board base, conducting bars secured to the face of said base, a switch base of insulation mounted directly on said conducting bars free from the firstmcntioned base, switch members carried by the switch base, and fastening members arranged above the first-mentioned base and extending through the switch base and having their ends connected to said conducting bats and switch members, the fastening members electrically connecting said bars and members and supporting the switch base upon the conducting bars, substantially as and for the urpose set forth.

In a pane -board structure and in combination, a panel-board' base, conducting bars secured to the face of said base and having raised portions thereof spaced apart from the face of the base, a switch base of insulation mounted directly on said raised portions of the conducting bars free from the first-mentioned base, switch members carried by the switch base, and fastenin members movable from the face of the switc base through portions of said switch members and the switch base into detachable engagement with the raised portions of the conducting bars, the fastening members electrically connecting said bars and members and supporting the switch base upon the raised portions of the conducting bars, substantially asand for the purpose specified.
5. In apanel-board structure and in combination, a panel-board base, pairs of conducting bars. spaced apart and secured to the face of said base, opposing ends of the members of each pair being separated from each other and from the base and thickened, a switch base of insulation mounted directly on said ends of the conducting bars and having projections on its lower face interposed etween opposing end faces and opposing side faces of said ends of the conducting bars, switch members carried by the switch base, and fastening members movable from the face of the switch base through portions of said switch members and the switch base into detachable engagement with said ends of the conducting bars, the fastening members electrically connecting said bars and members and supporting the 'switch base upon said ends of the conducting bars, substantially as and for the purpose described.
