WATER-MOTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
lll'atcnteddan. 13, 1914.
Apgl'icaton led March 18, 1913.' Serial No. 755,157.
T all 'zo/10m it may] concer/2 lBe 1t known that l, GEORGE FISCHER, a
"citizen of' the United States of America,
anda resident of Mercer Island, in the ,county of King land State of Washington,
have invented certain new and useful 1mprovements in Water-Motors, of which the following isa specification. l
My .invention has more particular' reference to motors of that type wherein the prime mover consists of'a float, and has for a primary object to provide a construction of this character which is simple, durable and capable of being readily set up in position for operation.
A further object resides in the provision of a novel construction wherein the initial upward movement of the float is augmented through ,pressure ofthe inflowing fluid.
Other objects will be set forth as my description progresses, and those features of construction, arrangements' and combinations of I'parts on-which I desire protection, succinctly-defined in my annexed claims.y
Referring to the accompanying drawing wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout: Figure 1 is a top.plan of my invention, portions of some of the parts being broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof. Fig. 3 is .a fragmentary lvertical section through the supporting bolted,'as by bolts 5', to the bottom wall of casing 1, encircles an intake port 5, through which construction direct pressure of the fluid entering through port 5 will be applied to the float, as 6, to start the same on its travel. After this initial upward travel, float 6 passes from within the restricted lower portion of 'chamber 2 and will then' continue to rise slowlyV and in a uniform manner through the buoyant force of the water. V y n Float 6 can be of any suitable construm tion but, in accordance with my invention and where wall section 3 is employed, it is of such diameter as to be rece1ved in said wall section when lowered, at which time 1tv will be suitably spaced from said wall section and form the bottom wall of 'casing 1, 1t conveniently resting on lugs, as 7, of wall section 3.
Reference numeral 8 indicates tracks havn ing-'flanged upper and lower end portions seatlng on4 and being removably secured to supplemental wall section 3, as by screws 9. The innerl faces of tracks 8 are formed with grooves in which vertically spaced guide members 10, fixed to float 6, slidably engage.
Reference numeral 11 indicates a platform removably secured, as by lag screws 12 to the flanged upper end portions of tracks 8.
Reference numeral 13 indicates s aced cross members of platform 11 on whic are journaled'shafts 14. These shaftsare provided with loose pinions l5 having rigid arm extensions 16 equipped with pawls 17, which latter engage ratchet wheels 18 fixed to shafts 14, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3.
Pinions 15 are in mesh with racks 20, fixed to float 6, and through the revision of ratchet wheels 18 and their paw s 17, the' said shafts 14 will be driven by their racks alternately in a common direction, one shaft operating during the rise of the Heat, and the other during lowering movement thereof.
In taking movement from shafts 14, I conveniently provide the latter with sprocketwheels over which 'a sprocket chain 21 takes.
One of the 'shafts 14 is also provided with a pulley Q. .a
' Reference numeralA 24 indicates a pipe communicating with port 5, which pipe is provided with a suitable valve, as 25, having a stem 26 extending upwardly' alongside casing'l and provided on its upper end portion with a suitableoperating handle 27.
My invention is shown adapted to operate by thel ebb and dow of water, casing 1 being mounted on suit-able brackets 28 of piles 29. ltcan, however, be used where a. rise and fall of water is artificially .produced.
Having thus described my invention what ,I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let-I ters Patent of the United States of America,
1. A. casing provided with a chamber havtion of the cli-amber of said casing, and 1110-' ing a fluid inlet in its lower portion, a holllow supplemental wall section removably secured in the lower portion of said chamdaylof March 1913.
ber, a floatin said casing chamber, vertical tracks secured to said Wall section, bearing members on said float engaged with said racks, a platform on the upper end portions'of said tracks, a rack secured to said Heat, and motion transmitting mechanism mounted on said platform and engaged with said rack. l
Signed at Seattle, lvashington, this 4th GEQRGE FISCHER. lVitnesse's MAUD M. HOOK, Y Pinnen P. FERRY.
