Application filed February 5, 1913. Serial No. 746,413.
I clear, and exact description ot the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apportains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a new and useful corner post joint -between two pieces ot plate glass.
As one of the objects' o t the invention, it iS the aim to provide a joint of this nature, whereby the two pieces of plate glass may be held at various angles relative to one another, or alined.
Another object of the invention is to provide a corner post joint construction consisting of an outer post member and an in 11er post member comprising a series of trough-shaped bars arching one'another telescopically, between which trough barsl and the outer post member, the adjacent edges of two pieces of plate glass areradapted to `be clamped.
Another object of the invention is the provision of adjustable connections between the outer post member and the inner post meinbe1,whe1"eby the series of said trough-shaped bars may be adjusted relative 'to one ain In practical lields it may be found necessary to subject the various features ot construction of the oint to alterations, to which the patente@ is entitled, provided the alterations fall within the scope of what is claimed.
The invention comprises fnrtherteatures and combination of parts, as hereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings and claimed.
In the drawings Figiire l is a transverse sectional view of the improved corner post joint, showing the two pieces of plate glass arranged in alinement. Fig. Q is a detail perspective view of one of the inner clamping trough-shaped bars shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective` view ot another of said trough-shaped bars shown tdg. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail view oll one ot te clamping bars upon the outside, and that s ada ed to be swung adjustably. Fi'g. 5 is a d tail view of the outer post member. Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view of a corner post joint, showing a slightly modi- .cd construction, and the two pieces of glass, held at 90 degrees or at right angles, the apex of which extends outwardly. Fig. 7 is a detail perspective view of one ot' the trough-shaped post members shown in Fig. Fig. 8 is a detail perspective view of another of said trough-shaped post members shown in Fig. G. Fig. 9 is a detail transverse sectional view of a corner post construction partly broken away, lshowing a slightly modified `structure. Fig. l() is a transverse sectional view of a corner post ,construction, showing the two pieces of plate glass held at 90 degrees or at right angles to'one another, but just the reverse to that shown in Fig. 6; in other words, sthe two pieces of plate glass extend inwardly to substantially an apex. Fig. l1 is a detail view ot the inner clamping trough-shaped bar. Fig. 12' is a detail view of the inner reinlforcing clamping bar that telescopically arches the clamping bar shown in Fig. 11.
Referring more particularly `to all the figures of the drawings, the outer corner post member or bar (the structure of which is common throughout the figures)kv comprises two sheet metal arched bars 2 and 3 fitti-ng- 011e another, as shown in Figs. l, 6 and l0. The inner bar 3y has its flange portions 4 terminating in beads or rolls 5, about which the flange portions 6 of thevouter bar or post extend, thereby enlarging the circumference of the beads or rolls 5. The inner sheet nretal bar 3 is olset from the outer'qsheet metal bar Q. to receive the head 7 of the bolt 0r screw 8, the shank of which extends inwardly of the window. This outer pest l extends'vertically the full length of the adjacent edge portions 9 of the two pieces of plate glass .10, and in constructing the joint. it is to be understood that a plurality oi bolts is to be utilizedj being placed at intervals of the joint construction.
'lhe outer clamping platesl ll are substantially ot' the same (.onstruction in each ol the Figs. l, (l and 10. These clamping plates or bars 1l comprise the substantially S-shaped portions l2 and the straight parts 1?. The curved portions 14: of the S-shaped portions engage the beads or rolls 5, and when constructing` this type of joint, and adjusting the part:- to their proper positions in order to hold the plate glasses at the dsired angles, the plates or bars ll are adapted to hinge upon the rolls or beads The corner joint construction includes an of the S-shaped portions of the plates orv4 lsilient-clamping jaws engage the flange exthrown outwardly, .necessary to screw the nut 28 tarther on the bar 15, through the portion 16 of which or'screw 8 extends, as shown in each ot thev Figs. 1, G and 10. the bar '15 terminate in rolls which are engaged by the curved parts The iianges or sides of or beads 17, 18
bars 11, thereby hingedly connecting the sides of the ytrough-shaped bar 15 to said plates 11. Threaded upon the shank ot the bolt 8 is a nut- 19, for holding the bar 15 in the desired adjustable position. Telescopi-4 cally arching the bar 15 is a second troughshaped bar 20, through the part 21 'of which the bolt also extends. rIhis bar 20 constitutes eliicient means for reinforcing the bar 15. Telescopically arching the bar 2O is a third trough-shaped bar 22, the flanges of which terminate in bulged jaws or clamping members 23, which in Figsrl and 6 engage the inner surface of the two pieces of plate glass, to hold-said pieces of glass closely against the straight parts 13 of the lates 11, thereby clamping the glass tirmy in lace. However, 1nliig. 10 the bu'lged retensions 2-1 of the sides of the reinforcing bar 20. Telescopically arching the bar22 is a fourth trough-shaped bar, which acts as means to reinforce the entire interior construction of the corner post structure. In other words, the bar 25 reinforces all the bars 15, 20 and 22 combined. This trough- 4shaped bar 25 is adapted to extend the full height of the Awindow construction, and its upper and lower ends are provided with the whereby the bar 25 may ,bei
From the foregoing it is to be understood there hasbeen provided a simple, novel and particularly desirable corner post'construction for plate glass .show windows, and one which has been found practical, inasmuch .outer clamping of the plates 11 will bev as the various parts' of the structuramay be adjusted, for holding the two pieces of plate glass at various angles, whetherv an' acute anglefor otherwise, or in alinement.
lllhe invention having been set forth, what is clainzed as newv and useful 1.*In a vshow window corner post construction, an outer channeled post member,

5, ln a show window construction, two pieces ot plate glass an outer-channeled post member, outer clamping members fulcrumed upon the sides of the channeled post, means for adjusting the outer clamping the sides of the channeled post,
a second trough-shaped" ico 1 clamping members members tc dierent angles including a trough-shaped. bar connected to the outer bar, the sides of which terminate in clamping jaws to hold the ll be glass against the outer clamping mem ers, and means for adjusting the second trough-shaped bar, and a third trough-shaped bar telescopically arching intermediate the first and second trough-shaped bars to reinforce the structure, and a support Yfixed to stationary means to hold and reinforce the entire structure,
and nieans carried by the outer channeled bar on which the various inner bars and the adjustable means are mounted.
\ 6. -In a show window construction, an outer channeled post member, outer clamping membershaving substantially S-shaped portions. fulcrumed upon the sides of the channeled member, an inner trough-shaped bar having hinged connections with said S- shaped portions, whereby upon the adjustment of said trough-shaped bar the clamping members may be arranged at different a second trough-shaped angles, a projection extending inwardlyfrom the channeled post member extending through the trough-shaped bar, means on the' projection to hold the trough-shaped bar in adjusted pos'tions, a second trough-l two bars for reinforcing the structure, and4 a support iixedly connected to ioor and ceiling of the show window structure.
