To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANonnw GRANsTRoM,
- a citizen of the United States of America,
'- that it becomes necessary to residing at San Pedro, county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented a certaln new and useful Coat; and I dohereby declare the following to be a fullfclear, and exact description 'of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to Which it appertains to make and usethe same. This invention relates to improvements in coats, more particularly to novel and improved means provided on the inner side of a coat which is adapted to prevent the flaps of the coat from bcingblown apart when the coat is unbuttoned in'warm weather.
In warm weather it is often so Windy button u a coat to avoid the bad appearance and disagreeahle inconvenience caused by the blow ing apart of the flaps of the coat.
One object of this invention is to provide novel and improved means on the inner side of the coat which when the coat is unhuttoned and opened to avoid discomfort in warm weather is adapted to span the flaps of the coat and prevent the flaps of the coat from being blown apart by the wind.
Further objects of the invention are to provide novel andimproved means of the nature specified which is simple in character, inexpensive, neat in appearance, and convenient and efiective in use.
Other objects and the advantages of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art from a consideration of the following description of the preferred form of the means embodying it, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in wh ich Figure 1 is a front view of a coat having the. invention applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view of the inner side of the coat, showing the strip spanning the'flaps; Fig. 3 is another fragmentary view of the coat, showing the strip as it IS normally on ranged on one of the fiapsyFig. 4 is an enlarged broken sectional view taken on the line 44 of Fig. 1; Fig 5 is an enlarged broken sectional view ta (en on the line 55 of- Fig. 3;and Fig. 6 is an enlarged view of the strip.

14; the buttons 11 bein e holes 13 in the usua manner to button up the coat.
' The novel and improved means embodying the invention consists of a stri '15 preferably formed from the same cfbth as that of the coat-which as shown has one of holes 13 on the flap itsend portions sewed to the inner side and near the edge of "one of the fiaps fiap 12 in this instance--and has on its other end 01'- tion a button 16 a hole 17 in the flap 14 to connect the flaps 12 and 14 so that the coat may be left open in warm weather be blown apart by use the strip 15 is ably extends throu 19 on .the inner si e of the flap l2 and the button 16 is passed through a hole 20 in the pocket 19 to hold the strip out of the way but ready for use when desired. When the strip is secured in the pocket 19 the latter serves well as a safety pocket.
' It will be seen that the means above dethe wind. When not in folded back and prefer- 'scribed has the merit of being simple in construction and arrangement and well adapted to effectively accomplish the objects of the invention.
I claim:
A coat provided with a strip which ha one of its end portions secured to the inner side-of and near the edge of one of the flaps of the coat, a button on the other end portion of the strip ;he other of the flaps of the coat having thereof into which said'button may be fitted to span and connect the flaps of the coat, the
flap of the coat to which the strip is secured which is adapted to fitmto h the slit 18 of a pocket- Patented nee.3o,1913. 1
and yet the flapscannot hole in the inner side having a pocket on the inner side thereof with a slit and a hole in the ocket so that the strip when not in' use may be folded back and hesecured in the pocket by fitting the button in the hole in the pocket, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my and extend into the pocket through said slit 7 top" name to this specification in the presence of two subscrilfing witnesses at Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, State of California, this 21st day of August A. D. 1913.
