ROTARY ELOW.
inseam.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, MARION Pnarrono, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of lVakelee, in the county of Cass and State of lvlichigan, have invented a new and Improved Rotary Plow, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to plows, my more particular purpose being to provide a socalled rotary plow having spiral cutting blades so formed and fitted as to bespecially adaptable for use in a motor plow.
My invention further com n'ehends certain improvements of a general nature related to plows of this type and tending to improve the general etliciency-oit the plow.
Reference is to be had to the accompany: ing drawings forming apart of this specification in which like cha actors of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section of this in'iprovement. Fig. 2 an elevation showing one of the cutting blades and the manner in which it is mounted; and Fig. 3 is a plan View.
Referring to the drawing A is the plow and ll a shaft adapted to be rotated and upon which the plow is mounted. The plow eom 'irisesa spider (I, having a hub (1 provided with oppositely projecting arms at, spokes 7), shoes 0, and blades (i. The spider is secured to the shaft ll by a set screw 0; and the arms of the spider are provided with grooves (17 in which the spokes 7) are secured by bolls l). The shoes 0 are sul'islantially L-shaped and the blades (Z are secured approximately at their center of length in the angle formed by the members of the shoes. As shown in the drawing the shoes and blades are secured to the spokes by the same bolts 0 but separate fastening means may be employed for said parts it desired. n i 7 Each cutting bhidc (Z is curved into arcuate form in the general direction of itsi length and is tilted slightly by the shoe 6; so that the cutting edge of the bladeis displaced angularly from the general plane in which the spoke rotates; that is to say the Specification of Letters Patent.

cutting edge of the blade is inclined-to the plane of rotation of the spoke. In practice a plurality of the plows will generally be mounted upon the shaft, and" the spider of each plow will be so secured to the shaft as to make a slight angular dis placement relatively to the next preceding one, so that the several successive spiders hear more or less approximation to a spiral.
By constructing the plow as above described, a very simple, cheap and etlicient plow is produced, and one which can be readily assembled or taken apart for transportation or storage.
Having thus described my invention what ll claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A plow, comprising a revoluble shaft, a spider provided with a hub fitting on said shaft, means for securing the spider to the shaft, spokes mounted upon the spider and extending inv diametrically opposite direc-- tions.substantially L shaped shoes mounted upon the outer ends of the spokes, and cut- .tinp; blades secured approximately at their center of length to the shoes, said blades being curred in the direction of their length and having their cutting edges inclined relatively to the plane of rotation of the spokes.
2. A revoluble plow member, comprising a spider provided with a hub and spokes projecting from diametrically opposite sides of the hub, L-shaped shoes secured to the outer ends-of the spokes with one member projecting in the direction of the length of the hub, elongated cutting blades curved in direction of their length, and means for securing said blades approximately at their center of length in the angle formed by the members of the shoes, with their cutting, edges inclined to the plane of rotation of said spokes.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presenceot' two subscribing witnesses.
MARION E. PLAYFORD.
