UNITED PATENT OFFICE.
HAN$ J. AUNE, OF CROOKSTON, MINNESOTA.
PLOW.
To all who m 2'1; may concern:
Be it known that I, Hans J. dons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Crookston, in the county of Polk and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in plows, and particularly to the type in which the share is detachable.
Among the objects in view are firm and effective retention of. the sharein place during use, and ease and facility of detachment of the share.
ll ith these and further objects in view, as will in part hereinafter become obvious and in part be stated, the invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations and arrangements as herein specified and claimed.
1n the accompanying drawing: Figure l is a view in side elevation of a plow enibodying the features of the present invention, the standard, handles and landside b-eing omitted. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the moldboard detached and showing the connected frog. Fig. 3 is a similar view of the share detached with the landside omitted and parts broken away. Fig. 4; is a detail perspective view of the latch bar detached.
Referring to the drawing by numerals, 1 indicates the usual share formed with point 2 having the vertical portion 2' ordinarily in line with the landside, the latter being omitted from the drawing. Above the share 2 is the usual moldboard 3. The share 1 is detachably secured in position by a frog 1- of angular form in cross section having one side of the frog riveted or otherwise fixedly secured to the moldboard 3, and extending below the same to a position lapping the upper portion of the share 1, the forward portion of the opposite side of the frog also lapping a portion of the vertical part 2. The share 1 is provided with a series of headed studs or buttons 5, and the vertical portion 2 provided with a similar stud or button 6. The lower edge portion of the frog d is formed with upwardly and rearwardly inclined notches 7, 7, adapted to snugly receive the shanks of the studs 5, 5, when the share is in place, the forward porti on of the frog d being formed with a notch 18 adapted to accommodate the shank of the stud 6.
In operatic-11, the share being detached Specification of Letters Patent.

may be applied in position by merely disposing it beneath and substantially in line with the lower ed of the inoldboard 3, and with the open ends of notches 7 in line with the shank of studs 5, notch 18 being correspondingly disposed relative to stud (3, and then pressing the share rearwardly and upwardly for causing the frog to further lap the contiguous parts of the share, the mate rial of the frog being caused to be disposed at the notches back of the heads of the several studs 5 and 6, the share being moved until the lower edge of the moldboard is in contact with the upper edge of the share. lVhen the parts are thus positioned, the share will be firmly connected with the n'ioldboard the studs engaging the frog and serving instead of rivets or bolts, but if the parts were left thus with no means for preventing r'lisplacenient, the share would readily work loose, backing oil until the frog would become disconnected from the studs. Hence, a latch bar or hook 8 is pivoted to the inoldboard 3, at a point preferably spaced rearwardly from the frog 1-, said bar being formed with a hook 9 adapted to partly inclose a stud 1O fixed to and projecting laterally from the share 1, after the manner of stud 7. Obviously, after the share has been positioned on the moldboard in the manner above described, the swinging of the latch bar to a position for causing the hook 9 to engage the stud 10 will. cause said bar to serve as a latch or lock for effectively locking the share against forward or downward displacement, the cngagement of the frog with the studs 7 pre venting rearward or lateral displacement of the share.
In operation it has been found that while the share 1 is usually capable of ready detachment from the moldboard by merely releasing the heck of the latch bar and pulling rearwardly and upwardly on the inoldboard, and conversely on the share, at times this is found insuliicient because of the rusting together or the wedging of the parts, and in order to provide means for starting the disengaging and forcing the share away from the moldboard, when desired, the lower or free end of latch bar 8 is formed with a cam surface S disposed relative to the bar and its pivot in position for engaging a pin or stud 11 fixed to share 1 and extending laterally therefrom in the path of the cam 8 when the share is fully in position. The
extreme lower end portion of bar 8 is also preferably provided with a laterally turned thumb piece or flange 8, which may be engaged by the thumb or hand of the operator for facilitating the swinging of the bar on the pivot to the released position. Frequently, even when the parts are somewhat rusted together, it is sufficient to merely manually press the lower end portion or latch bar 8 until the engagement of cam 8 with the stud 11 effects a disconnection of the share with the moldboard and it is obvious that in the instance of the share becoming too firmly rusted or wedged in place, an upward swinging blow of a hammer against the lower end portion of latch bar 8 in the direction toward the stud 11 will insure disconnection of the parts, as the bar in having its lower end swing past the stud 11 is given a relative longitudinal thrust by the action of cam 8, thereby thrusting downwardly and forwardly against stud 11, and insuring a detachment of the parts.
Having thus describedthe invention, what is claimed as new is The combination with a moldboard and a share detachably mounted thereon, of means detachably connecting a portion of the moldboard to the share, a pivotally mounted latch bar for detachably connecting another portion of the moldboard to the share, said latch bar being formed with a cam portion at its free end, and means in the path of the cam for imparting a thrust to the share away from the moldboard during a part of V the pivotal movement of the latch bar.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
