LOUIS DAVID', OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
FLUID-MIXING ATTACHMENT FOR FAUCETS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dee. 9, 15MB;
Application filed prl 7, 191B. Serial No. 759,379.
especially applicable to hot and cold water tane-sts.
The clijcct oli my invention is to provide a cheap and casilif attacliahle device for 'tain-cts or spigots u'hich will mix the fluids hy causiiircY them to issue from one opening'.
liiitlicr ohicctot my invention is to preti-:lc a device which is readil)v adju alle to the farialile distances lietu'cen tauwis rr ,sp-@gais hoi'n horizontally and vertically.
lu the ili'aiiingsv` Figure l is a trout View ot' one torni ot my invention. Fig'. l a tiont i'icn ol'V my invention as it appears when 'adjusted to Vfaucets placed a short distance apart. trie'. Q is a Jfront vie and partialvci'ical section oit another and the iz-icfei'i'ii'l toi-in ot my invention. Fig'. Il is :i fide 'vieu` o't' the mixing hall attached to the tluid conducting' coils` and lfig. l is a 'trout iieu' and partial vertical .section ot the saine.
'l'o the accouiplishment ot' the ii'lii'esiiid ultiecis my invention"consists in the peculiar untel construction. arrangement and couilriiia ion o'lI pa 'ts hereinafter desciilicd in the spccilication and more particularl)v pointed out in the claims. reterencc hein;l had to the accompanyiunV draii'iuns toi-ming` :i part ol this spccitication wherein like numerals,` ol reference denote like parts 1hrou jliout thespccitication.
ltct'orriiigf more :-:pecilicall to the drawii c l represents the t'auctts or spigots or pipes` which cond ict the Iluids, are the caps` pi'cl'ci'ald)l made ot metal, which are rcnioralily attached to the, faucets t and are made to tit iielitl.Y around the said faucets l, liy means ot thc elastic nieiiilici's il. Said elastic uuniliers il are secured to the hollouuictalliccups L). either hy corrugations'insaid metallic cups :E or iu any other uninner Well lquou'u to the art. 'The diameter ol5 the hole in the elastic iiieniliei' il lieing made ,slightly smaller than thc diameter ot' thc tauci-tr` a water tight; joint' is readily ef- :tccted hy simply pushing the cap 2 over the se; ihc tlnids discharged trom faucets andA 'rate faucets or .spigots faucet l. The said caps 2 are secured to'- the ends ot the preferably helical coil 4, l= iff, l. and the coils 8 and 9, Figi. 2, which are made preferably o't' metal having a .50
lou' elastic limit, such as lead or tin., so that the. .said coils t, S and 9 will retain a per# manent set. when a slight tensile or compressive or bending stress is exerted thereon f manually.
The fluids which enter at the ends of Vthe coil l are mixed in the space ahoie the ontlet pipe 5 and are then discharged through the outlet pipe 5, which is attached atf'or nrar the central part ot the coil 4. outlet cap l0 4may he screwed or otherwise fastened to the outlet pipe to lengthen the discharge opening'.
The coil may preferably he made of twopartsl S and 9 to allow the insertion of theu 75 hall (l between the ends ot the coils as showni in Figs. 2, l and Lt, which allows the fluids to he more thoroughly mixed lie'toreissuings' Jfrom the outlet hy reason' of .the larger spiice in which tln mixini occurs.
My device is` intended to he used prefer ahly in connection with the hot sind cold waiter Faucets in the ordinary house sink, wash tubs and hath tubsA The temperature ot the water issuing from the outlet opening g5 can easily he regulated. by adjusting the Faucets to vary the imOiints of hot and cold ateiz l do not limit ii'iyself, however, to the mixin;Y of hot and cold water as it is obvious that any tluids can he mixed in the 9;;
saine nai' in iiny desired proportion, if the tluids are tirst made to pass through Sepa- The diameter of the coils 8 and 9 being smaller than that of the t'aucets, tue velocity of the streams ot 95 fluids is greatly increased on entering the coils.`n'iih the result that., when the said streamsV ot' fluids enter the hall G, they meet and hcconie mixed diie, to their` velocities and the mixture is dicharfged through the 100 outlet opening'.
When the distance between faucets is `n'reater lli-:u is usual, the coil 4t can he stretched hy a tensile pull and it Will stay stretched as shown iu Fig'. l. manner. the coil can lie compressed to tit the distance lictu'een Jfaucets when the said distance is less than usual. lVlicn the failcets are not on the saine lioriz/.ont'al line., the
coil can he suitably heut to properly join the 11G said faucets.
lt can readily he seenthat the outlet pipe The 70 .ln the same 10g,
5 can be adjusted to various positions aftei my device is attached to the faucets7 by means of a slight force exei'ted in the de siied direction and the mixing ball 6 can be adjusted in the same manner.
l do not limit myself to the specific form of construction shown herein., as it is ireadily seen that the form of the caps and outlet 't pipes can be changed without departing rom the scope of my invention.
What l claim is:
i. The combination with lnid conducting faucets, of metallic helical coils of pipe capable of fixed adjustment in length and direction to fit between said faucets, means attached between said coils 'for mixing said fluids and means for discharging the tluids from said coils.
2. The combination with fluid conducting:r reet-s, of metallic coils of pipe capable fixed adjustment manually in length and direction, a ball attached between said coils and an ontlct pipe attached to said ball.
il. The combination with fluid conducting faucets, of metallic helical coils of pipe capable of fined adjustment manually 1n length and direction, means removably attached to said faucets for conductingr the fluids to the outci1 ends of said coilsP a ball attached to the opposite ends of said coils and an outlet pipe attached to said ball.
el. The combination with hot and cold wavlength and direction to noemen? ter faucets, of a metallic coil of pipe of low elastic limit, capable of fixed adjustment in tit between said faucets, means iemovabl attached to said faucets for conducting t e Water to the ends of said coil, means for mixing the Water attached near the central part of said coil and means foi' discharging the 'Water from said mixing means.
. 5, lhe combination with hot and cold Water faucets, of metallic coils of pipe of low elastic limit capiible of adjustment in length and direction to the space between said faucets means removably attached to said faucets for conducting?)- the water to said coils, a water mixing ball secured to the said coils, and means for discharging the Water from said ball.
6. The combination with hot and cold Watei' faucets of metallic helical coils of pipe of low elastic limit capable of fixed adjustment in lengt-h and direction to fit between said` faucets, caps removably attached to said faucets for conducting the fluids to the outer ends of said coils, a Water mixing ball secured to the opposite ends of said ycoils and an outlet pipe attached to said ball.
