OTTO LAMPE, OF KONIGSBERG, GER-MANY, ASSIGNOR TO THE FIRM OF OTTO ZIMMER NAOHF, OF KONIGSBERG, GERMANY.
SPRING-CASING.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'r'ro LAMPE, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Konigsberg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Casings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in spring-casings, particularly those for foldable bells of goods-stands, which consist of two folding-parts, with means for regulating the tension of the spring. Whereas in the known devices of similar type, an exact adjustment of the spring tension corresponding to the weight of the bell is not possible, the latter being balanced by a separate braking contrivance, which makes the con struction of the bells very complicated, the subject matter of the present invention provides improved means by which an exact adjustment of the spring tension is effected in a simple way by the spring being connected at its free end with a movable ring, which bears with its inner end against the spring casing and which is adjustably connected to the latter by means of a pressurescrew. Besides, the goods-stand may be provided with a handle for carrying the same and for using the bell for advertisement purposes.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front view of the goods-stand. Fig. 2 is a front view, on a larger scale, of the spring casing with removed cover. Fig. 0 is a rear view of the spring casing. Fig. t is a horizontal section through the spring asing. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the latter. Figs. 6 and 7 are front views of a goodsstand with handle, in open and closed position respectively.
The two folding parts 1 of a foldable bell, which is supported by a frame 2 and 3, are each provided on one trunnion with a spring casing. The frame member 2 carries near each trunnion of the bell a hole, in which the coupling pin 4: is inserted for the connection of the bell parts 1 with the springcasing 5. The bell parts 1 turn on diametrically opposite pivots 6, which are fixed in any suitable way on the stand 1 1 and which carry each an extension 9 for the reception of the spring-casing 5, which on one pivot belongs to one bell-part and on Specification of Letters Patent.

the opposite pivot to the other bell-part. In each spring casing, a movable ring 7 is located, which by a set-screw 8 can be pressed toward the spring-casing 5 so as to turn with the latter. The spring 10 is in a way known in the art fixed on the ring 7 and on the extension of the pivot O. In order to regulate the tension of the spiral spring 10, the remcwablc coupling pin 41 is removed and the spring casing 5 is, after loosening the set-screw 8 a little, turned so far on the extension 9 around the ring 7, which is then uncoupled from the spring casing, until one presumes that after the following backward movement of the casing the spring will become suiliciently tensioned. In this position of the casing 5. the screw 8 is again tightened and thus the spring casing again coupled with the ring 7, so that upon the now following baclnvanl movement the easing 5 turns together with the ring 7 and tensions the spring, the coupling pin 1 being then again inserted in the corresponding borings of the casing and the frame. It is obvious that in this way the tension of the spring can be adjusted at will. In order to fix the bell in its open position, for filling and cleaning the stand, the casings") carries further a lever 11, which, when the hell 1 is turned down, can be pressed by hand into a notch 12 of the disk 13 in order to fix the bell in its lowered position. Besides, the stand may be fitted with a handle 15 for -arrying the Same and for using the bell for advertisement purposes.
I claim:
In a spring-casing for the trunnions of foldable bells of goods-stands, in combination, a spiral spring fixed with one end to the trunnion of the bell, a movable ring inserted in the casing and connected with the other end of the spring, and a disengageable pressure-screw to act on the ring and thus to fix the same in position within the casing, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
OTTO LAMPE.
