NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN BEHRINGER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bottles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to nonietillable bottles and particularly to the class which has a gravity actuated valve adapted to be closed when the bottle is in upright position.
The object of this improvement is to provide a simple and efficient bottle of this character.
Further objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1 is a vertical section of a bottle neck embodying my invention, Fig. 2 is a similar view but taken at approximately ninety degrees in a horizontal plane from the view shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is a section taken 0n the line 3-8 in Fig. 1, Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line 4-41 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 5 is an elevation of the upper portion of the plug employed in the construction.
rlhe preferred form of construction, as illustrated in the drawing comprises a bottle neck 6 having shoulders 7 in its lower portion and longitudinally extending grooves 8. Said neck is also provided with laterally extending recesses 9 in an intermediate po sition. A lower portion 10 of a plug is positioned in the lower portion of the neck of the bottle with its bottom portion engaging` the shoulder 7. The portion l() is provided with a central opening 11 and a plurality of foot members 10 extending downwardly below the shoulder 7 forming re cesses therebetween. In the upper portion of the member 10 is a valve seat 12 into which seats a valve 13. Said valve 13 is provided with a stem 14 extending through the member 10 and provided with a weight 15 on its lower end. `When the bottle is in inverted position, the weight 15 rests against the foot members 10 of the portion 10 there- Specification of Letters Patent.

An upper plug member 1G is provided with legs 17 which rest on the top portion of member 10. Said member 1G is provided with ribs 18 which engage the grooves 8 of the bottle neck to prevent rotation of the member 16 in said bottle neck. The member 16 is provided with recesses around the lower portion of its outer side to allow liquid to pass between the foot members 17 around the partition 19 thereof and perforations 20 are formed in the partition 19 to permit of a communication with the upper chamber 2l of the member 16, thereby allowing the liquid to pass out of the bottle. A cork 22 may be provided in the upper portion of the neck (3 above the member 1G when so desired.
A spring actuated lock having two locking members Q23 is mounted in a perforation 24: in the member 1G to lock the members 10 and 1G in the bottle neck when once inserted and will, as clearly shown, be securely locked against removal therefrom.
In operation the bottle is filled in the usual manner and member 10 inserted in the neck (S against thc shoulder 7 and the member 1G inserted in the bottle neck and passed to its position, indicated, where the locks 23 will engage the recesses 9 to lock said members therein. The bottlemay be sealed in the usual manner with the cork 22. To empty the bottle, the cork 29. is removed, and the bottle inverted to permit the unseating of valve 13 which permits the liquid to flow from the bottle. The perforations 19 are formed radially with relation to the member 1G so that it would be impossible to effect unseating of the valve 13 by means of a wire or like object thus preventing refilling the bottle.
lVhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into etl'ect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a non-reillable bottle, the combination of a. bottle neck; a two-part plug in said bottle neck7 the lower of said parts having a valve seat in its upper face and the upper part having a laterally disposed central partition spaced concentrically from the bottle lo neck by ribs which eXtend downwardly and rest on said lower part, an outwardly flaring wall extending upwardly from said central partition with its top portion engaging the bottle neck and having perforations establishing communication betweenthe interior of said flaring wall, through said perforations, around said central partition and to the valve seat in the lower part; and a valve in said valve seat, substantially as described.`
