To all whom it may concern.'
lBe it known that I, NEWTON Rusk, a citizen of the'United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Automatic Sash- I'locks, of which the following is a specification.
.The object ofthis inventionis to provide a lock to be laced ouy the meeting rails of vertically-.sliding window sashes which will automatically draw. the two sashes together `and lock them by. the operation of lowering .the previously. raised lower sash, or the. re-
verse if the u per sash was lowered.

Fig. 2 is a. vertical seetion of the window on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 looking toward the sash lock. Fig. 3v isa vertical section on the line 8-8 `of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a to lan view of the catch member of the-loc t etached from all vother parte. ylever 20 locke 7 is the meetin rail of the upper sash and 8 the meetin rai of the lower sash.
9 is the bo y of the lock having horizontal ears 10 with holes for the passage of screws, as shown, by means of which the body 9 is secured to the meeting rail 7 of the up )er sash. The interior of the body 9 is holllow to form a box or casing into which the lower end of a latch 11 is extended through a lon itudinal slot 12. At the other end ci' the od 9 from the slot 12 is a standard 13, prefera ly formed as an integral portion of the body 9 and having a transverse slot 14. near. its base. This standard has the taperingrside 15, as shown in Fig. 2.
. he lower end of the latch bar 11, which is inserted through the slot 12 into the hol- .low body 9, is bent at right angles as shown .in Fig. 3 andthis bent end is pivoted to the body 9 by .means of .a transverse pin 16. Mounted within the hollow body 9 is a leaf spring17, one end of whichhas a bearing upon a transverse pin 18 supported by the body 9and vthe other end 19 which is preferably reduced -in width as shown in Fig. 6, is passed out f thehollowbody or box 9 througha suitable 'slot' in the top of the box at the baselof the standard 18, as shown in Y`Fig.`l?,` and is bent-toward 'thelatch bar 11, ,as shown, and terminates against the under side of a locking lever 20. This locking passes through a suitable slot. formed 1n he latchbar 11 and is pivotally secured `to the latch bar by a in 21.
