Beit known that I, Caio H. Paoli, a Citizen of the United States, and resident of Athens, in the county of Bradford and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and -useful Improvement in Fluid-Pressure-Operated Tools, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fluid pressure operated tools and has for its objectto provide a novel and sim le oiling device for a tool of this character ravin 1through which the motive uid is fe to the tool piston, said device being arranged to automatically and edectively lubricate the tool by supplying oil theretoy in small quantities. i l
The oiler is herein shown and describedin connection with a telescope feed pneumatic hammer drill butit is to be understood that the oiler may be used in connection with te1escope feed tools of various'ty es Without departing from the spirit an scope of my invention.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents the tool in longitudinal central section taken in one plane, with my improved oiler applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a similar view taken in a plane at right angles to that shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section taken in the plane of the line A--A of Fig. 1, and Figs. 4, 5 and 6 are, respectively, front end, side, and rear end views of the oiler tube, a portion of the absorbent blanket being broken away in Fig. 5 to show the perforations in the tube.

The feed cylinder has a motive duid inlet 7 near its front endend the feed piston has a motive ii'uid inlet 8 near its rear end whereby the motive fluid may be fed to the tool piston 2 through the bore of the feed piston a telesco e feed A The motive fluid reaches the space 9 between the closed rear end of the feedpiston 3 and the closed rear end of the feed cylinder l by escaping past the feed piston head '5.
Theoiler which is located in the telescope feed comprises a perforated tubel l0 having a screw threaded vhead 11 at its rear end and surrounded by an absorbent blanket 12 of tubular wicking or other suitable material. This tube is located in the forward portion of the bore of the' feed iston 3, its head 11 having a screw threa ed engagementv with the walls of the bore and its forward end being held in engagement with the front end of the said bore thereby forming an annular oil chamber 13 surrounding the tube and absorbent blanket. The filling hole for this oil chamber-is denoted by 14 and may be closed by a removable plug 15. A passage l'16 leads from the front end of the bore of the fixed feed piston 3 to the tool piston 2 for supplying* motive duid A thereto for operating the same.
. In operation, the motive duid will pass from the inlet 7 rearwardly in the space -between the fixed feed piston and extensibleY feed cylinder to the fluid inlet 8in the feed piston and also past the .head 5 into the space 9 for feeding the tool to its work. The motive fluid `will pass forwardly through the bore of the feed piston 3 and the bore of the tube 1() into the passage 16 and from thence to the tool piston 2., This motive Huid under pressure will also pass through the perfor-ations in the tube 10 and through the blanket 12 intothe oil chamber 13. When the supply of motive fluid is cut ofi for stopping the tool, the motive iiuid under pressure in the'oil chamber 13 will escape back through the absorbent blanket 12 and perforations 1n the tube l0 into -the bore of said tube and will carry along y with it a sucient amount of oil to properly lubricate the tool. When the toolis again started up, this oil will be carried forwardly to the tool.
lt is'evident that changes might be resortf ed to in the form,'construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention; hence l do not wish 'to limit myself strictly to the structure herein set farth, but
