ENVELOP-FASTENER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 25, 1913.
Application filed April 9, 1913. Serial N o. 759,976.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, RUDOLF V. I-IiTsoH- MANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Clain, in the county of Barton, State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Envelop-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to envelop fasteners.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of an envelop fastener which may be associated With various types of envelops and when so associated will efliciently secure the closing ilap of the envelop against movement of closing position.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of an envelop fastener which may be operated to secure the closure flap in closed position with ease and facility.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists inthe details of construction and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which-- Figure 1 is a rear elevation of an envelop provided with the improved fastener; Fig. 2, a section on the line 2--2 of Fig. l; Fig. 3, a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4, a detail perspective view of one of the keeper members.
Referring to the drawings A indicates an envelop which includes a rear member 10 and a closing flap 11. Mounted in the free end of the flap ll is a spring locking rod 12, said rod being disposed transversely of the closing iiap and having its ends projecting beyond respective side edges of the flap. Held against the rear member 10 by means of straps 13 are oppositely disposed corresponding keeper members A and B. Each of these keeper members A and B is formed of a plate 14 having a central raised portion l5, said raised portion being provided with a flange 16 disposed at right angles thereto. This flange 16 is provided with a plurality of perforations 17 for a purpose that will presently appear.
In order to secure the closing flap in closed position the rod 12 is bowed so that said rod can be moved between the flanges 16 of the keeper members A and B. With the rod 12 in this bowed state the ends thereof are engaged in corresponding openings 17 of the Hanges 16 and then released to the influence of its resiliency. When so released the rod 12 will straighten and the ends of Same will pass through and project a considerable distance beyond the inner faces of the flanges 16. In this manner the closing flap 11 is efficiently secured against movement from closed position.
What I claim is The combination with an envelop including a back member and a closing flap, of oppositely disposed corresponding keeper members secured against said back member, each of said keeper members including aperforated portion disposed at right angles to the back member, and a locking rod carried by the free end of the closing Hap, the terminals of said rod: being adapted to be detachably inserted in corresponding perforations of the keeper members respectively.
In testimony whereof, I aiiX my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
RUDOLF V. HITSCI-IMANN.
