Heretofure, in devices of this el ns1., where these shoes nre used, the continuous Contact with the periphery of the r0- tiiting piston causes them to become quickly worn and as a consequence leakages are liable te occur between the piston' and said she@ while oftentimes the edges of the shoes engage with the periphery of the piston and injure it. These objections are wholly oven come' by means of the prejei-iinn 24 Secured permanently to the annular piston member and pivotally connected to the pivoted blade 27. It is obvious that by this construction, wherein a permanent pivotal connection is made between the annular piston member and the pivoted blade, the rocker or other members heretofore necessary to force the pivoted blades into contact with the periphery of the rotating pistons, are wholly dispensed with, thereby reducing 'the parts of the pump to a minimum, and as a conseqience materially reducing the liability of t e pump to become inoperative.
In order to provide suitable lubrication between the annular member 22 and the eccentric 20, the annular member 22 'is provided with a passage 34 on the discharge side vof the projection 24, said passage extending from the periphery of said annular member to a groove 35 cut into the 'inner wall of said annular member. The water or other liquid being pumped will be discharged through the passage 16 under pressure, and a portion of this water or other liquid under pressure will pass through the openin 34 into the groove 35, and the pressure o this liquid lnterposed between the periphery of the eccentric 20 and the inner wall of the member 22 will tend to force said member outwardl in every direction,l thus obtaining a very ree movement of the eccentric within said annular member. The water or other liquid in the groove 35 will be forced outwardly in eitherl direction between the eccentric and annular member and ultimately pass beyond tbe ends of said annular member and effect a suitable seal between the ends thereof and the end plates 19. Any water or liquid passing by the packings 33 will return into the piston chamber 12. This forms a very effectual means 0f lubricating the eccentric 20, whereby it is permitted to move freely within the surrounding annular member 22.
It is believed that the operation and many advantages of the invention will be thoroughly understood without any further drescription.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
l1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a casing provided with a piston chamber and inlet and outlet passages communicating therewith; a revoluble piston therein; an annular member surrounding said piston and adapted to bear at one point in its periphery upon the wall of said piston chamber, said member having anannular groove in its inner cylindrical Wall; means for admitting liquid under pressure to said groove; and a projection from said annular member interposed between said inlet and outlet passages and adapted to prevent the direct passage of liquid from on'e passage to the other.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a casing provided with a piston chamber and inlet and outlet passages communicating therewith; av revoluble piston therein; an annular member surrounding saidpiston and adapted to bear at one point in its periphery upon the wall of said piston chamber, said member having an annular groove in its inner cylindrical wall; a passage through said annular member communicatingwith the outlet passage adapted to admit liquid under pressure to said groove; and a projection from said annular member interposed between said inlet and outlet passages and adapted to prevent the direct passage of liquid from one passage to the other.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination of a casing provided with a piston chamber and inlet and outlet passages communicating therewith; a revoluble piston therein; and an annular member surrounding said piston and adapted to bear at one point in its periphery upon the 'wall of said piston chamber, said member being provided with means projecting therefrom to prevent the direct iassage of liquid from one passage to the ot er and having an an nular groove in its inner cylindrical Wall communicating with said outlet passage by a single' passage adjacent said projecting means. i
