In Operating this device, the adjustable cnd B of the cylinder is removed, 'the latter filled with feathers, 4said head replaced, andth'e cylinder 'placed iu position within the casing.

The nozzle of a pair of bellows is now inserted in the outer end of the pipe G', the cylinder rotated' 'slowly, and a strong blast .ofi-aircaused to pass into the same, until all dust and loose dirtcontained within the feathers lare blown outward, through` the diaphragm and the pipe B', into the open air.

'The ends of the pipes B' and O' are 'now closed, by "-njleans' of plugs, the' slides D are opened, the casing closed'andf'secured, and steam admitted to its intei'ior through a'pipeattached to its end, andconnected V`with any suitable generating 'apparatus,-when, by slowly revolving said cylinder, each` feather is brought in contact with the steam, until all impurities are reV `moved and their natural elasticit-y is restored. i

Whensufliciently cleansed, steam, is shut ofl', the

slidesD closed, the pipes B' and C' opened, andtsteani again admittcd to the casing, where it imparts its heat to the cylinder, so as to cause all moistnre contained therein to evaporate and `pass ontward through said' pipes, leaving the feathers entirely dry and ready for use. o e

To remove the feathers, the cylinder is' taken from its casing, its end B removed, and its contentsv quicklypoured out.

The special advantages possessed by this device,

areo First, `it enables the thorough and speedy removal of all dustv from 'fcathers, without the employme'nt of other or special devices.

. Second, it enables the employment of steam for the oleansing and drying of feathers, and thus avoids the t for accomplishing the last-nanied result, i

Third, the device is so simple in its parts that any meclianic'of ordinary skill can readilyiconstruct the same, in addition to which, said parts' being com'paratively inexpensve, the complete'v machine can be furnished ata low cost.

-Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention,

'What I olaim as new is- 1. The metal oyljnden or ieservoir A, for containing feathers to he reno'ated, pivoted freely within a stationary oasing or steam-jacket, H, snbstantially' as and for the pnrpose shown.

2. rhe pivoted metallica eyliner A, for containing feathe1's,'provided with hollow Journals B' and O', and having portions of its periphery perforated 'and covered with suitable slides D D, for the purpose of controlling the admission of steam from the surrounding Jacket to the feathers, suhstantially as shown and speoifiefl.

3. In combination with the cylinder A, construoted as deseribed, the head or cover B, of the full diameter of said: cylinder, and made removable, -foiI the pnrpose of introduoing and wthdrawing the feathers, snbstam tially as shown..
