` IMPROVEMENT IN BLANKS FOR VHAMMER-STRAPS WAGONS..
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pari: of the same.
To all whom it mag/concern:
"Be it known that I, WILLIAM J LEWIS, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvemeut in Hammer-strap Blanks; andy I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, 'reference being had to' the accom` panying drawing making a part of lthis specification, l in whoh- Figurel is a perspective `view of my improved strap-blank, and

Hammer-straps forwagon and carriage double-trees and single-trees have been heretofore forged from Adat bar-iron, in which Inode of manufacture considerable laboris requisite to give tli'em auornamental appearance. By my improvement, I roll `the biaks, in continuous lengths, from, fiat bar-iron, through rolls so grooved as tobring the body of the bar to the form required for the strap, with raised washer-heads at the ends of each blank, through which to punchthe bolt and hammer-holes.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will describe its construct-ion.
Thelblanks A are `4rolled in continuous bars from fiat barliron, in rolls having anar-ran gement of grooves,
such as will form the body, a, of the blank of any de= sired varying width 4and thickness, with rounded edges and 'flat or ornamental face.
The excess of metal in the bar is caused to exude at the sidesof the blank, as at b.
.At or neareach end-of eacli blank, I roll a washer- 4 head, c d. I then trim off the ns b, punch hammer aud-bol`t holes, c d', through the washer-heads c d, and bend the blank, by dies or otherwise, to the form shown in fig. 2, when it is ready for use.
NVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is x A hammer-strap blank, rolled ready for finish-ing and punching, of the. form substantially as described, and shown in g. 1.
