This invention relates to new and usefulimprovements in derricks, and more particularly to a combination casing derrick, oil p umper and oil rock heater.
An object of this invention is the provision in connection with an oil well of a bailer adapted to be lowered in the well and to contain boiling water, for the purpose of melting the paraffin contained in the oil rocks, and thereby producing a greater flow of oil, the said bailer also serving the purpose of removing oil from the well.
A further object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and eflicient in use, and readily operated.
With the above and other objects in View, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a side elevation of my invention, partly in section; and Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional view of the bailer. Referring to the accompanying drawing by similar characters of reference, the numeral 10 designates the upper end of the easing of an oil well, which is exteriorly threaded, as at 11, to receive the depending flange 12 of a base plate 13, which is thus supported rigidly upon the upper end of the casing 10. A similar plate 14 but less in dimensions is supported above the plate 13 over the casing 10 and is connected to the said plate 13 by the tubular rods 15. The .plate 14 is formed with a central opening 16, disposed in registration with the opening of the casing 10, and preferably centrally thereof. The plate 14 and rods 15 are held against any undesired tilting movement and braced by the guide wires 17 which are attached in any preferred manner to the plate 14.
- A pulley 18 is journaled upon one of the rods 15 and receives the cable 19 one end of which is secured to a drum 20, the latter being mounted upon a drive shaft 22, which is rotated through the medium of the motor v 23 controlled by the clutch 24. This shaft 22 is journaled inbearings 23 attached to the casing 10, and lower ends of the adjacent rods 15, while the op osite end of the cable 19 is connected td a piston rod 25 which has keyed to its opposite ends respectively a weight 26, and a iston 27, the latter of which is slidably disposed within a cylindrical bailer 28, formed in one end with a stufling box 29 through which the piston rod 25 oscillates, and at its opposite end with a valve seat 30, for engagement with a valve 31, the stem 32 of which projects through the lower end of the bailer and is provided with a trip member 33.
A water receptacle 34, is mounted upon the plate 13, while the water contained therein can be heated by a gas jet 35, which is supplied from the gas contained within the oil well, through the pipe 35. A similar receptacle 36 is disposed upon the opposite side of the plate 13 and is connected by a pipe 37 to an oil tank, not shown. Operating arms 37 are pivoted to the tubular rods 15 and can be operated by means of the cable 38 to swing the bailer 28 in the direction of the receptacle 34.
The operation of the device is as follows: The bailer 28 is raised to a point above the upper end of the receptacle 34 by means of the cable 19 and drum 20, and then lowered into the said receptacle until the trip member 33 releases the valve 31. The cable 19 is then operated to raise the piston 27 within the bailer which draws the heated water into the same. The bailer containing the hot water is then lowered into the well and the heat therefrom melts the paraffin contained within the oil rocks, and produces a greater flow of oil. The bailer is then removed and the Water forced from the same by the downward movement of the piston 27 caused through the instrumentality of the weight 26. The bailer 28 can then be again lowered into the well until the trip member 33 engages the lower end thereof which obviously unseats the valve, 31. The cable 19 is then wound upon the drum which causes the upward movement of the piston 27 Within the bailer 28 thereby sucking oil into the said bailer. 'When the piston 27 contacts with the upper. end of the bailer, the bailer,
upon further movement of the cable will be raised out of the well, and the oil can be removed therefrom and deposited into the re- I ceptacle 36 in a manner similar to that in whlch the water is removed from the baller,
and the oil will then flow through the pipe 37 into a receptacle, not shown.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be manifest that a derrick such as described is provided which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.
It should be further understood in this connection that I not to be limited to the specific construction herein shown, but may -=rn-ake any minor changes without departing from orsacr-i-ficing any of the advantages of Q the invention, and can also use the derrick in connection with any other obj-cot to which the various parts thereof will adapt them- 5 selves.
Having thus fully described this inven tion what I claim as new and desire to pro tect by Letters Patent is:
l. The combination with a casing such as described, of a plate having a flange formed thereon attached to said casing, rods connected to said plate, a second plate connected :to the upper ends of the rods, ,a plurality of i ond plate attached to the opposite ends of the rods, a shaft supported by the rods and the casing, a drum upon the shaft, means .for rotating the shaft, a cable attached to the drum and passing over the pulley, a piston rod connected to the cable, a weight attached to the piston rod, a piston attached to the piston rod, a bailer receiving said piston, a valve controlling the bailer, and means for operating the valve.
3. The combination in a derrick of a plate, supporting means upon said plate, a bailer supported thereby, receptacles disposed upon the plate, a tank communicating with one receptacle, means for heating the other reccptacl'e, and means for attaching the plate to a casing such as described.
I 4. An apparatus for increasing the flow of oil wells consisting of a hot water boiler, a bailer adapted to receive hot water from said boiler, and means for lowering the bailer [with the contained hot water into the well whereby the heat from the hot water melts the paraflin contained in the oil bearing rock and thereby produces a greater flow of oil.
5. An apparatus for increasing the flow of oil wells including a hot water boiler, a gas burner operatively connected to the oil well casing and receiving gas therefrom, said burner directing its flame on said boiler, a 'bai-ler, means for charging said bailer with hot water from said boiler, and means for lowering said 'bailer with the contained hot water into said Well whereby the heat from said hot water melts the paraffin contained in the oil bearing rock and produces a greater flow of oil.
