Description
JAMES entrenador c-HEL wird' me Letters Patent No. 107,849, dated October 4, 1870.
l IMPROVEMENT IN COQKING-RANGES.
The` VSchedule referred to in lthese Letters Patent 'and making part. or the same.
` To all persmts' to whom these presents may "come:
BeA it known that I, JAMES Amann, of Chelsea, of vthe county of Suiiolk and State ,of Massachusetts, have'invented a new and.` useful Improvement in Cooking -Ranges, provided with what [are termed elevated ovens, and I dohereby declare the same to lbe fully described `in the` following specification,
l and' represented inthe accompanying drawing, of
`which`` Figurel is a front elevation ot' a cookingrange, provided,withmyjnvention Figure 2 is a longitudinal section v of the ovens and -tl1cir" ilues. i l l Figure is a vertical` section, taken between the ovens. l 4
My invention consists in a certain new or improved arrangement or arrangement-s of oven-lines.
`A denotes twovertical tlues, extended upward 'omthe tine-space B, which goes o ver and backvvartlom the tire-place 5C, and has its top plate `perto'rated for the reception ot' kettles or other vessels.
` The two upright fines A A lead directly into a nar-4 row iiuespace, D, arrangedaiong underneath both of 'theovens E F. A
. Betw-een the said ovens is a flue-space, which rises vertically from the space 1),-and opens directly 1 into another narrow flne space,`H, extended over both .ovensl i r i l Ilutthermore,"there` isled ont ot the bottom flue space 1I) two upright zflue spaces I I, which are arlranged against theonter vertical sides' oftheV two ovens`," and terminate at' or about one: halt' the height `of eaeltagainst horizont-al plates K K. l' Directly oventhe sideflue-spaces I I are other tlues L L, which extend up agains'tthe sides of the ovens, in `manner as replesented. l ',Furt-hermore, there is-projeeted downward from the endsof the topf of the uespaceH,"and into y the flue-spaces L L, two partitions M M, such: par- "titrons terminating at a sutiicient distance abovethevv horizontal-plates K K,and `each being arrangedin or about inthe middle ofits ilue L.
LThe two flues Lopen at top; in manuel' as reprel sented, into another horizontal tine-space N, which isv disposed"immediately over the space H.
A-pendnlousfvalvc orgate, 0, is arranged in `the flue H, at its middle, andpivoted at it-s uppcrpart a, `iso to 'be capableof being swung i'onrone oven to theothen, l l i The flue N ist() `have'-'afdischarge opening, I, at its middle. i
`Furthermore, Sat` the rear part 'of the middle of the top of the flue V1I there -are to be ltwo holes .b l1, made through such top,:tl1"ey being provided with a slide. valve, d, whosestemfor rod is shown at c, in ig. j3.
`Figlu'e denotes a top view of tlie top plate f of f asexplained. Y
the flue H, and exhibits the direct discharge openings-7) l) and'their valve d.
-In the front of the line N, and at its middle, is `an opening, g, provided with a door, 71 the same answerng two purposes, viz.`,'to enable access to be hadto the fine N, to cleanseit at any time, aud-also to serveas a means of introducing, or. permitting to be introduced into the flue, a quantity or current of l air, to check the draught about the ovens, as occasion may require.
Ihe object ot' my arrangement of fines is to disseminate the smoke and heat equally about the ovens, or to cause the smoke' and volatile products of combustion to flow principally around either of the said ovens,'as may be desirable from time to time.
After rising ontot' the vertical iines A A, .the smokeand het gases, or portions thereof, will pass `into the fines I I,`r and impinge against the lower portions'of the outer sides ofthe two ovens.
`From the fines I A, the smoke and' yhot gases will pass into the fined), thencel up the flue G, `between From this latter line the volatile products will d i. `vide, and pass iu opposite directions, through the iue H, over the ovens, thence downward in the ues L L, thence underneath -the plates M M, thence npward ilu the Vfines L, and thence into andthrough the ilueN, to the escape-passage 1*/ B'y drawing forward the valve al, the smoke and heat may, in'whole or in part, be diverted trom flow-v ing over the tops of the ovens, or through the fines I' claim.-
1..lhe arrangement and combination of ,the div,- ting-dues L L, the partitionsiM M and K K, the
horizontal lines D'H, andthe vertical llores I I and G, disposed relatively to the two ovens Id F, in manner substantially as explained.
2,.`The 'arrangement and'combination of the tine N, the diving-fines L L, partitions M M and K K, the horizontal filles I) H, and `the vertical ues I I and G, disposed relatively to tbe two ovens 'E F, in
manner substantially as explained.
3. The arrangement and combination of the valve O, with the two ovens E F, and4 the {lues-I I, D G,
HL, and the partitionsY M M K'v K, disposedwiththe said oveus, as explained.
4. The arrangement and combination ot' the valve d, and its escape-opening or openings b, with thetwo ovens ESF, theiines N, H, and D,"the iiues'I I, and the divingtlues L L, the whole being as specified.
` The arrangement and combinationot'- the open. ing g'and door 71, with the -two ovens. E F, andthe fines I I, 1), G, H, L, and N, arranged wtli the ovens,
