Description

EpGOLLETT. I PROCESS OF OXIDIZING SULFITE BY MEANS OF AIR OR. OTHER OXIDIZING GAS.

PROCESS OXIDIZING SULFITE BY MEAN'B. OF AIR OR 0KIDIZING-GAS.
noisier.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented @ct. 28,193t3.
Application filed February 5, 1913. Serial No. 746,352.
Be it known that I, EMIL ject of the King of Norway, residing at Christiania, Norway have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Processes of Oxidizing Sulfite by Means of Air or other OXidizin'g-Gas; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and
exact description of the invention, such aswill enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawvelocity of the oxidation of sulfite by means of air or other gases containing oxygen is in a'surprisingly high degree dependent upon the velocity of the gas current in. the system, and according to the present invention this observation is utilized in the manner that by mechanical means a gas current of great velocity is maintained throughthe oxidation system. It has been found however that there are practical difliculties' connected with passing great amounts or gas through the whole system and on the other hand it is not possible'to obtain the desired velocity without passing a great volume of gas Connn'r'r, a subthrough the oxidation system. Applicant therefore proceeds insuch manner that the greater amount of the oxidizing gas is kept. circulating in the oxidation system. with the desired velocity while the amount of which in the unit of time is conducted toand from the whole system 13 much smaller.
An embodiment of the invention is diagrammatically illustrated in the accompany ing drawing, in which A. is the oxidation tower, through which the sulfite solution passes. B is the pipe, through which the principal amount of is maintained in circulation by means of the fan C, and D is a supply pipe for fresh amounts of oxidizing gas. which is supplied in limited quantities.
E is the outlet pipe for the used gas.
I claim 1. T he process of oxidizing sulfite by means of an oxidizing gas, which consists in supplyingthe gas to an oxidation system and circulating the through the latter, at a greater speed than it is supplied to and with drawn from the system.
2. The process of oxidizing ammonium sulfite by means of an oxidizing which consists "m supplying and witlidrawiug the gas to an oxidation system, and circulating some of the supplied. gas a plurality oi? times through the system at a greater velocity than that at which the gas is supplied and withdrawn. a
In testimony that I claim the foregoing my invention, 1 have signed my name presence of two subscribing witnesses.
