IMPROVEMENT nr GRINDINe-MILLS.
` The `Seitedirle-referred. to these Letters Patent and making part of thesame.
To all whomthun/"concern:
Be it `known that I, AMos VERBECK, of` Sterling,
` .inf thecounty of Whiteside `and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Mills; and I do hereby declare that the.
following is a full, clear, and exact'description there- @reference being hadto the accompanying drawingy i andto the .lettersofreference marked thereon, which formafpart of this specification.'
'lhefnatureof` myfin e ention consists inthe construction `and arrangement `of a grinding-mill, to be attached to anordinary hand or horse corn-sheller,
" f or other suitable machinery.` e
In order to enable'others skilled in the artto which 4my invention appertains tormakeand. use ythe same,
I will now proceed to 4describeits construction and operation, referring'to the annexed drawing, in :which-f" l, e" e `lligure'l is a side elevation, and
Figure `2, an end view of my machine.
i V Figure shows thefmode of cutting and attaching "theb'nrs 1 I A represents thefraineof `my machine. B' is the driving-wheelrnonnted upon one end of a horizontal shaft, which has its bearings in the-frame A, and upon the other end of which is a large cog- I wheel, (l. This wheel gears with another-wheel, D,
` Y upon one lend of a similar shaft E.
Oil` the other end ofthe shaftEis a disk, G, hav- I'ing a circular recess, in'which the bnr'H is inserted. i This 'bnr is fastened by means of two blocks, a a, secured on the under or inner side ofthe bnr, and let into the ange surrounding the recess on the disk G,
as shown in iig. 3 f
` The outer or grinding surface of the bnrH is cut, u
as shown vin g.,3, the furrows running at 'a tangent withdthe shaft E, theendofwhich is seen in the center of the bur.` At a suitable distance from the outer edge the fur'ro'ws turn at an `obtuse angle, as shown, irom e to i. l
"'lhe surface fromI e to l', iiat, although furrowcd, I
i but from e inward to the shaft it bevels inward, and
thecentral edge curved or rounded.
Near the inner edge of the bur is a seriesof projecting teeth, 11. Y
From the Vside of the frame A, above and below the burH,proj ect four arms, .Il d, having tenons on on their onteiends, and on said tenons is placed a plate,`I, provided on its inner side with Y a 'stationary buig-H', constructed and attached in the s ame man` ner as above described for the revolvingzbur H. Around this bur isa circular casing," J, with deliveryfspout, K, underneath, the casing being large enough to inclose the revolving bnr- H also when put in placc.
On the outside ofthe plate I is a hopper, L, through which the grain is fed tothe mill, said hopper opening in thev center of the stationary bnr H;
and on the inside of'` the plate I is a slide M, running behind'said bur, and projecting into the centralopenving `to regulatethe amount of grain fed to the hopper.
A screw-bolt, g, is attachedl to the frame A, immediately under the disk Gr, and passesathrough the'faceplate I. On the outer end of this screw-bolt is a thumbnut, f, by means of which the burs may be regulated to grind line or coarse, as may be desired.
Having thus fully described myinvention,
1 What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-` 1. The arrangement upon the face-plate I of the stationary bur H', casing J, spout K, hopper L, and slide M, all constructed and operatingas set forth.
2 In combination withl plate I and devices thereto attached, screw-'bolt g, and thumb-nutf, all arranged and operating as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing'as 'my own,
I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
A AMOS VERBECK.
4 Witnessesz .T No. G. MANAHAN, SAMUEL WELLS.
