HEAD-MOTION FOR LOOMS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Get. 14,1 913.
Application filed November 11, 1912. Serial No. 730,571.
To 077 whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Erna H. Bron, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waltham, in the county of Middlesex and State of h lassachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Head-Motions for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a head motion for looms, and more particularly to the head motion for looms of the Knowles type, shown and described in Reissue Letters Patent, No. 7784, in which vibrator gears are moved according to the pattern surface, into mesh with the upper and lower cylinder gears, and rotated thereby in one direction or the other, to operate the harnesses, or drop boxes.
The object of my invention is to provide means for positively operating the vibrator levers, to positively raise and lower said vibrator levers by intermediate cam vers, which are positively rocked or operated by the pa tern chain, and to lock said vibrator levers in each position in which they are moved.
My invention consists in certain novel features of construction of my improvements as will be hereinafter fully described.
Referring to the drawings :-Figure 1 is a central cross section, through the Knowles head above referred to, with my improvements applied thereto. Fig. 2 shows some of the parts shown in Fig. 1, in a different position. Fig. 3 is a section, on line 3, 3, Fig. 2, looking in the direction of arrow a,
sametigure, and, Fig 4 is a section, on line 4, l, Fig. 2, looking in the direction of arrow 7), same figure.
in the accompanying drawings, 1 is a portion of a loom arch, iaving mounted thereon the stand or head frame 2, which supports the several parts of the head motion. The head motion, of the well known .Snowles referred to, comprises the upper cylinder gear 3, fast on the cylinder shaft t, the lower cylinder gear 5, fast on the cylinder shaft 6, the vibrator lever 7, which is pivoted at one end on the stationary rod 8, and carries the vibrator gear 9, located intermediate the cylinder gears 3 and 5, and which is raised and lowered by the pattern mechanism, to be hereinafter described, to communicate a reciprocating motion to the harness levers, not shown, through the vibrator connector 10.
11 and 12 are guide combs, adapted to prevent the vibrator levers from moving sidewise. In this instance, on a stand 13, is a rotary pattern chain cylinder 14, on w iich is supported the usual pattern chain, which is made up of rolls 15 and tubes 16, in the usual way.
All of the above mentioned parts may be of the usual and well known construction.
i. will now describe my improvements.
Extending over the pattern chain cylinder 14, and the pattern chain thereon, are in this instance two indicator levers 17 and 18, for each vibrator lever 7, said indicator levers 17 and 18 have their hubs pivot-ally mounted on a transverse rod 19, which is carried in hearings on the frame 13. Guide combs 20 and 21 prevent the indicator levers from moving sidewise. The ends of the levers 17 and 18 are recessed at 17 and 18, to loosely receive the lower ends of two upwardly extending inclined rods or bars 22 and 23. The upper end of the rod 22 is pivotally connected to a stud 24:, on on end of a horizontally extending arm 25 on the hub 25 of the upwardly extending cam lever 25. A second horizontally extending arm 25, on
the huh 21")", has a stud 26 thereon, to which is pivotally connected the upper end of the upwardly extending rod 23. The cam lever 25 has its hub 25 loosely mounted on a transverse rod 27, which is suitably mounted in bearings 28 at each end thereof, which bearings are adjustahly secured to the frame 2. The alternate raising and lowering of the two indicator levers 17 and 18, by a roll,
under one lever, and then the other lever, causes the cam lever to be positively moved into the positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The upper end of the cam lever has the enlarged head 25, with a cam shaped slot 25 therein, into which extends a roll 29, mounted on a stud 29 attached to the vibrator lever 7. The rocking of the lever 25, and the moving of said lever from the position shown in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig. 2, or vice versa, causes the vibrator lever to move upwardly or down wardly; and also to positively lock said vibrator lever 7 in each position, without using separate locking means.
It will be understood that the details of construction of my improvements may be varied if desired.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a head motion for a loom, upper, and lower cylinder gears, a vibrator gear mounted on a pivotally mounted vibrator lever, and said vibrator lever, a pattern chain, two pattern indicator levers for each vibrator lever, said indicator levers operated by said pattern chain, connections intermediate said indicator levers and said vibrator lever, to positively move said vibrator lever in two directions, through the direct action of the pattern chain.
2. In a head motion for a loom, upper, and lower cylinder gears, a vibrator gear mounted on a pivotally mounted vibrator lever, and said vibrator lever, a pattern chain, two pattern indicator levers for each vibrator lever, said indicator levers operated by said pattern chain, and connections intermediate said indicator levers and said vibrator lever, to positively move said vibrator lever from one position to another, and lock the same in each posit-ion, through the action of the pattern chain.
3. In a head motion for a loom, upper, and lower cylinder gears, a vibrator gear mounted on a pivotally mounted vibrator lever, and said vibrator lever, a pattern chain, two pattern indicator levers for each vibrator lever, said indicator levers operated by said pattern chain, and connect-ions intermediate said indicator levers and said vibrator lever, to positively move said vibrator lever in two directions, through the direct action of the pattern chain, said connections including a locking cam lever suitably supported.
