- the operation of coiling repeated. The low'- est corner of the receptacle l lis" provided u with an opening 2l which is closed by a valve 25, having a dependin valve stem extending below the reoeptac e and arranged to be lifted by its contact with the frame- Work when the receptacle is depressed, as 'shown at 27, allowin the water contained in the receptacle l an any scale which may have accumulated tov flow out of the receptacle into a conduit 28. Air is excluded from the heated rod after its delivery from the mouth 14 of the laying tube until the coil is completed. and the partial c ling' of the rod is accomplished uniformly broughout its entire length, usually-,durincf the,
time required for ceiling, but the period of coolil'igry may lbe extended, if desired. rlhe amount of coolingl can also be varied dinrinpthe period of coiling by varying the flow of water supply through the 'pipe 16, so as to give a lil lier or lower temperature to the water in receptacle 1. The water supply pipe is provided with a. branch pipe leerling to a reservoir 29 of water, containing a suit- .able coating material such as is now emloyed in coating rods preparatory to draw-, ing, which is carried by the Water in. the reservoir into the receptacle l1 and adheres to the surface of the coiled rod to (prepare it for its passagctlirongh drawing ies. rl`he supply pipe is provided with a stop cock 30' which enables the How of water to the receptacle l to be increased to lower the temperature of the water in the receptacle 1, or decreased to permit the temperature to be raised by the heat of the rod and thereby varying,V the amount of cooling duringd the oper-'aalen of ceiling. lThe pipe leading to the clear waltensupply is provided with a stop emilil', and-the branch pipe to the reservoir 29 has a stop cockBQ, enabling the amount of coating material carried into the receptacle to be regulated.
