UNETED STATS ATNT FREDERIC V. GRIESMAN, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
CORNER-BLOCK FOR IRON AND BRASS BEDS.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be itknown that I, FREDERIC V. Gnms MAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of Albany, in the county of Albany and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corner-Blocks for Iron and Brass Beds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to iron and brass beds, and the object of my invention is to provide corner blocks which may be economically constructed and easily adjusted, and which may be made of lighter material than ordinarily employed for that purpose; together with such elements and combina tions as are hereinafter more particularly set forth and claimed. I accomplish these objects by means of the mechanism illus trated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my corner blocks with angle irons in position and parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a plan of one of the corner blocks. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of one of the corner blocks. Fig. i is an end elevation of the block showing the attachment for the eccentric lever.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
For the purpose of constructing the corner block of an iron or brass bed of malleable instead of cast iron and to do away with the dove-tail castings now commonly used and drilling and riveting dovetails on the side rails or angle irons of the bed, and thus make a less clumsy and at the same time more effective and attractive corner block, I construct the casting forming a chair or block, A, provided with two portions, a, b, at right angles to each other, forming two sides of an open box together with an end Specification of Letters Patent.

piece, 0, which end piece is preferably provided with a rounded projection, D, through which passes a suitable bolt, d, forming a bearing for the eccentric lever, E. About midway between the ends of the block, A, I place a partition piece, F, provided with a foot, f, raised sufficiently above the bottom, 6, of the block to admit of the insertion of the angle iron, G, beneath the foot when the angle iron is resting upon the bottom, 5, of the block. The angle iron, J, is secured by bolts or rivets passing through the openings, in, on one side, a, of the block, A, and through the opening, K, in the bottom, 6, of the block, A. As thus arranged, the angle irons, J and G, forming the sides and ends of an iron or brass bed, into which the mattress is placed, are joined at their ends by a light, inexpensive and effective block, are held in place when the eccentric levers, E, E, are in the position shown in Fig. 1 and released when the levers, E, E, are operated to remove them from engagement with the angle iron, G. For the purpose of putting the bed together the parts may be quickly assembled and the eccentric levers operated to engage the end angle irons, G, G.
lVhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
Corner blocks for a brass or iron bed, comprising a casting having two sides and one end at right angles to each other; an eccentric lever pivoted to the end piece of the casting; an angle iron; a foot piece on said casting adapted to engage the top of the angle iron.
In testimony whereof I have aliixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERIC V. GRIESMAN.
