ALBERT WEYENBERG, OF WEST DE PERE, WISCONSIN.
COMBINED BENCH AND WRINGER-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 14, 1913.
Application filed. January 30, 1913. Serial No. 745,212.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT VVEYENBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at West De Pere, in the county of Brown, State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Benches and lVringer-Supports; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention is directed to improvements in combined wash benches and wringer supports, and has for its object to so construct a device that it may be easily and quickly folded or unfolded.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character wherein the wringer support may be shifted from the central portion of a bench to one end thereof.
"With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanyin drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the Wringer support after the same has been shifted to the end of the bench frame. Fig. 3 is an end view. Fig. 1 is a top plan view. Fig. 5 is a view showing the device folded. Fig. 6 is a longitudinal sectional view through the device in its folded position.
The device comprises a tub supporting frame 1, which consists of side bars 2 and end bars 8, said end bars being connected by bars 1, which are arranged in spaced parallel relation so as to effectually support the usual wash tubs.
I-Iingedly connected to the ends of the side bars 2 are legs 5, said legs being connected by brace bars 6 and are adapted to be held in their unfolded positions by links 7 and S, the former being pivotally connected to the side bars 2 and the latter to the legs 3. The links 7 and 8 have their meeting ends connected by a rule joint 8', which prevents the accidental folding of the legs 5.
The wringer support 9 comprises a pair of tapered uprights 10, the bases 11 of which being adapted to rest upon the side bars 2, said uprights being connected at their up- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for [per ends by a bar 11 and to which may be clamped a wringer of any well known type. Supported by the bar 11' is a drain board 12, which is so constructed that the water wrung from the clothes will be directed to a tub not being used for the wrung clothes. Extending transversely of the frame 1 and having its ends journaled near the ends of the side bars 2 is a shaft 12, and to the opposite ends of which are rigidly connected the lower ends of the arms 13, the upper ends of said arms being pivotally connected near the upper ends of the uprights 10.
To one end of the shaft 12 is connected a hand lever 14, which when grasped and swung in one direction causes the arms 13 to swing, thus lifting the base 11 of the uprights 10 from engagement with the central portions of the bars 2, and upon further swinging movement of the lever 14 the uprights 10 will engage the side bars 2 at their ends. Thus it will be seen that the wringer support 9 may be shifted from the center of the frame 1 to the end thereof, upon manipulation of the lever 14:, and viceversa.
It is obvious that upon breaking of the links 7 and 8 the leg 3 may be folded against the side bars 2, and that the uprights 10 may be folded upon the upper surfaces of said bars, thereby compactly folding the device so that it will occupy a minimum amount of space when not in use.
What is claimed is A device of the class described comprising a frame consisting of side and end bars, legs hingedly connected to the side bars, a shaft arranged transversely of the frame and journaled in the side bars, arms connected. to the ends of the shaft, a wringer support comprising uprights having their upper ends connected by a bar, said arms being pivotally connected near the upper ends of the uprights, a lever fixed to one end of said shaft and adapted to swing the arms whereby the uprights are shifted from the center of the side bars to the ends thereof.
In testimony whereof, I afiiX my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT WEYENBERG.
