To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS L. SMITH, of the city of Milwaukee, State of l i isconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rock-Crushers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in rock crushers and it consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter shown, described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification, Figure 1 shows a central vertical section through the machine and Fig. 2 shows a cross section through part of the device taken on the line L. L. of Fig. 1.
Referring to the parts of the device by numbers, 10 is the stationary die of the crusher supported in the frame 11.
12 is the oscillating jaw hung on the pivot shaft 13 and carrying the moving die 14.
The eccentric shaft 15 is ournaled in the frame, said journals being shown by the dotted circle 16, and carries the eccentric sleeve 17. The rib 1S projecting from the eccentric sleeve, is the means through which the eccentric 15 actuates the movable jaw 12 to swing on the pivot shaft 13. The rib engages the movable jaw 12 intermediately through the block 19 which is adjustable along the rear face of the jaw 12 in a groove shown 1n Fig. 2, the sides of which are designated by the numerals 20 and the bottom thereof by 26. This adjustment of the block is effected by the screw 21 which engages screw threads in the upper part of the block as shown in Fig. 1. The screw is rotatable in the lug 23 of the jaw 12, is held against longitudinal movement in said lug by the head of the screw and the set collar 2 1, and is held in its adjusted position by the set screw 25.
When the eccentric 15 is revolved in the operation of the machine, the point of engagement of the rib 18 with the block 19 will swing in a short are around the center of the pivot shaft 13. The longer the radius of this are is made by moving the block 19 away from the shaft 18, the less will be the angular movement of the jaw 12. Also, when the line through the center of the journals 16 and the point of engagement of the rib 18 with the block 19 is perpendicular to the surface of the jaw 12 on which the block 19 is adjustable, the jaw will be at its maximum distance from the eccentric, and any movement of the point of engagement to increase this angle will allow thejaw 12 to approach the eccentric and will also decrease the length of movement of the engaging point in the are around the center of the pivot shaft 13. The opening between the dies can therefore be adjusted by movement of the block 19 even when the surface 26 of the jaw on which the block bears is parallel to the face of the die 14, and even if the surface 26 were curved around the eccentric. It is preferable, however, to make this surface plain for ease of construction and convergent with the face of the die toward its free end for rapidity of adjustment.
In the preferred form as shown the block 19 is at the maximum upward adjustment to produce the smallest size of crushed product. Any downward movement of the block 19 will increase the opening between the dies 10 and 14 and increase the size of the procluct. It will also incidentally increase the leverage of the point of application of the power from the fulcrum which is the shaft 13.
As the size of product required is frequently changed, it is desirable to effect the necessary adjustment as readily and with as little delay as may be. Withthis improved device all adjustment is effected by merely loosening the set screw 25, turning the screw 21 until the block 19 is in the required new position, and securing the screw 21 again by the set screw 25, all of which may be done while the machine is running.
