Specification of Letters Patent.'

My invention relates to improvements in faucets and@A its object: resides in providing inccmbination-with agfaucet, a 'bubbling drink'- ing cup, the, admissionof.v fluid to which is governed by the 'same valve which controls the flow offwater tothe spout of the faucet.
I YVith thisI purpose in View, l. substitute for the valve handle of the ordinary faucet, a tube which carries a-bubbling cup in coinuiunication with its interior and l construct the: body of the faucetand the valve seated therein, with correlative ports and passages whereby an 'adjustmentofthe valve to deterininatev positions yrelativeto the faucet body, will' result in'.dirccting the flow' of water either into* thev bubblingfcup, or through 'the' faucet spout-,'.orwil'lpstopa thcsupp'ly of fluid to both .thelcup andthe: spout or will drain" thecupfthv'roughf'lthe spioutjA n addition to these featnres'lQhave 'provided means for controll'fingthe iidwof 'water'from the tubular handle to thecup and l have constructed the latter so as to insure'a: steady, uniform liow of water through its outlet:-
While'my invention may be .effectively ap' plied to faucets of diferent construction itis particularly adapted for use on basin cocks and it has been shown as applied to a fixture of this type in the accompanying drawings in the various views of which like parts are similarly designated and in which- Figure 1 represents a vertical sectional view of a basin-cock in which my invention is embodied, Fig. 2, a section taken along the line 2 2, Fig. v1, Fig. 3, a transverse section along the line 3 3, `Fig. 1, showing the position of the faucetwalve when the water is discharged through the faucet-spout, and, Fig. 4, a similar View with the valve in the position in which the contents Dof the bubbling cup are discharged through the spout. Y Referring more specifically to the drawings, the numeral 2 designates the faucet-body which as usual is constructed to be secured upon a suitable support 3 by the application of a nut e and to connect at its lower end with a conduit leading to a supply of water. 'An axial bore 5 in the body 2 terminatesin the conoidal valve-chamber 6 which communiratenteuoee is, isis;

cates with the interior of the faucet-spout 7. A valve 8 rotatably fitted in the valve chamber is maintained in constant engagement with the surface thereof by means of a springf) and its threaded stem 10 which projects through an opening 1in the upper portion-of the b'ody'2 is bymeans of an elbow 12, connected with a tubu-l-arro'd 13 which at its outer extremity carries the bubbling cup 15 and which togetherwvithv a therewith axially alined extension- 14, screwed into the basic body of the said cup, constitutes the handlebynianipulation of which the valve is "turned about its vvertical axis to anyone of the positions hereinbefore referred to.
The bubblingcupl is composed of an axially bored b'ody, member 16 Which connects-with the' tube '13 and Whose upper exteriorly. threaded' portion projects into the' globularl cup-member 17 which being screwedlonto they said portion?, engages a Shoulder'atthe lower end of the same. The
aXia-irbore-lS ofthe bodymember of the cup communicates'wlth 'the'interior of the cupmemberby means ofa pluratity of transverselpassages 19 and the-:flowthrough these' passages is controlled'fbymeansof'a screwvalve 20 which vertically, adjustably projects intothecorrespondingly. threaded end of thelbore 18.'
' Thecuptmember'l' with the bore of the body-member ,upon
.which it is` supported, anoutlet formed by..
has in axial alinementr to a comparative condition of rest in the recess formed around it, before being dis- Y' a plane transverse to the axis of rotation of the valve with the port 25 which is disposed to register with the orice 2.8 of the spout 7 fia 1,075,483
in the valve-chamber. The latter is furthermore provided in its interior surface with a longitudinally extending groove or recess 27 which in the operation ofthe device serves as a by-pass to establish a-communication between` the ports 26 and 24 and through them between the passages 22 and 23 in the valve 8.
A' When .the valve is in the position shown in Figs. l and 2, its 'handle is in its central position over the spout 7, the communication between the passages 22 and 23 is es-l tablished by means of the by-pass, as above explained, and the orifice of the spout 7 is closed so that the waterentering the bore 5 of the faucet-body will How only into andout of the bubbling-cup -l5. An adjustnient of the valve-handle to 'either the right or the left will cause the flow of water to thecup to gradually diminish and eventu" ally stop; by turning the handle farther to the right until itis at an angle of about .s ninety degrees to its former position, as is shown in F ig. 3 of the drawings, t-he port 26 is brought in communication with the orifice 28 of the spout and the ports connected with the upper passage'23 are closed with the result that the Water entering the faucet-body is discharged only through the spout 7, and by turning the handle farther to the leftuntil it has assumed a position at approximately ninety degrees to its cen.-
tral position, as is illust-rated in Fig. 4, the port 25 is brought in register with the orifice 28 of the spout and the cup is in consequence, drained through the latter.
It will be observed that, inasmuch as faucets are made of many different forms and constructions, variations in the form and arrangement of the parts included in my invention must necessarily be resorted to,
to renderit applicable to faucets which in and I wish itunderstood that such variations may be availedA of within the spirit of my invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is: y
1. A faucetcomprising a body having an inlet and an outlet, a Valve in said body, and a bubbling cup, lsaid valve having, internally, separate passages respectively in communication with said inlet and said cup, `and in its exterior surface, ports connecting with the respective passages, one of said ports being disposed to register with said outlet, and the said body having -a bypass for establishing communication between said ports.
2. A faucet comprising a body having an inlet and an outlet, a valve in said body,
and a cup, said valve having internally'fseparate passages respectively in communication with said inlet and said cup,
and inits exterior surface, a pair of ports connected with one of said passages and a third port connected with the other passage, the said third4 port and one of said pair of ports being disposed to register with said outlet, and the said body having a by-pass for establishing communication between said third port and the other port of said pair. In testimony whereof I have aliXed my signature in presence of t'wo witnesses.
I PETER J. LIN DGREN. Witnesses:
