ATOMIZER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 14, 1913.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANK C. DORMENT, a citizen ofthe United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the County of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Atomizers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an atomizer and to an arrangement thereof that adapts it for pocket use, prevents the escape of any liquid contained therein when the device is not in use and affords means for effectively atomizing the contents without projecting large drops.
The invention consists in the matters hereinafter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a view partially in side'elevation and partially broken away and in section of an atomizer embodying features of the invention; and Fig. 2 is a View partially in longitudinal section and partially in elevation taken at right angles to the plane of view of F ig. 1.
As herein shown an outer cylindrical holder 1 is permanently closed at its base, and has a detachable cover 2 that closes tightly over the upper end. A discharge opening near one margin of the cover and alfords bearing for a nipple tube 4 which is journaled therein, a flange 5 forming an end thrust bearing for the tube.
A cylinder 6 that is closed at its lower end depends from an opening in the cover 2 and is itself closed by a removable cap 7 through which the stem 8 of a piston head 9 is freely reciprocable. A suitable packing 10 and retaining plate 11 complete the piston which is normally projected toward the upper por- *ion of the cylinder by a properly disposed spring 12. A n upright jet pipe 13, substantially. in axial alinement with the tube 3, extends upwardly from a boss 14. or the like communication through the bore of the boss with the cylinder interior. A U-shaped aspirator tubel 15 is secured on a nipple 16 that is seated on the tapered end portion of the pipe 13. The lower ends of the aspirator tubes 15 are open while jet orilices 17 are formed therein in alinement with the opening of the nipple 16.-
By manipulation of the piston the air blast created through the cylinder pipe 13, draws up the contents of the holder through the aspirator tube and projects the jet directly upward into the nipple tube. Any drops resulting frompcondensation of the spray in the nipple tube fall back therefrom into the holder. If the holder is not in use the contents do not tend to escape therefrom. The particular form of the aspirator tube with its double inlet results in a large volume of spray or vapor. As the parts are readily removed and reassembled the instrument is easily sterilized.
Obviously, changes in the details of construction may be made without departing from the spirit of my invention and II do not care to limit myself to any particular form or arrangement of parts.
What -I claim is:
An atomizer comprising `an outer holder permanently closed at one end, a cover closing the other end, a cylinder secured at the upper end in an opening of the cover and closed at the lower end, a cap removably secured inthe upper end of the cylinder, a
piston for the cylinder, a piston stem extendingl through a guide opening in the cap,
an apertured boss extending from the lower part of the cylinder, a jet pipe secured in the boss and directed toward the nipple tube, a nipple seated` on the jet pipe, and an aspirator tube bent between the ends and secured cn the nipple with jet orifices in the bend alined with the nipple, the lower open ends of the aspirator tube being adjacent the lower end of the holder. l
Intestimony` whereof I aHx my signature in presence of two witnesses.
