Be it 1Known that l, GEORGE HENRY MANS- rinLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Snow-Removers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to devices for removing snow from walks and the like, and it has for its object to produce a simpl@ and efficient device capable of being operated by hand and including in its construction a plow or scraper, whereby the greater part of the snow may be displaced laterally, rotary supporting means for said plow, and a brush whereby the task of removing the snow is completed, it being understood that the plow or scraper is supported in such a manner as not to contact frictionally with the surface from which the snow is to be removed. A

A further Object of the invention is to produce a device of the character described, which shall possess superior advantages in point of simplicity, durability and general efliciency.

ith these and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved. construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

ln the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but tl at changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the claims may be resorted to when desired.

The improved device includes wings or side members 6, 6 which are connected together along their front edges in substantially V-shape, the rear ends of said wings being connected together and spaced apart by a cross bar '7. The body formed by the wings or side members and the cross bar 7 is supported by means of wheels 8 and 8,

preferably two in number, and arranged in tandem. A handle 9 is provided, the saine being secured to the cross, bar 7, from which it extends upwardly and rearwardly so as to be conveniently grasped by the operator. rlhe forward end of the handle which extends downwardly between the wings G` is preferably bifurcated, as indicated at 10, to accommodate the wheels, and said handle may be secured between the side members in any convenient manner; for instance, by extending the axle 1l of the lOIlt wheel 8 therethrough,

Mounted adjustably at the rear of the body is a brush l2, the bristles of which, 13, extend below the lower edges of the wings or side members (i so as to contact with the surface of the ground from which snow is to be removed.` The said brush, which extends transversely between the rear edges of the wings or side members, is preferably mounted in such a manner as to be vertically adjustable; this may be effected by providing the body of the brush with an upwardly extending screw threaded pin or bolt let which extends through the cross bar 7 and is held securely by means of nuts l5; suitable guides for the ends of the brush member should also be provided, as shown at 16, but l desire it to be distinctly understood that the manner of mounting and adjusting the brush may be varied as dictated by convenience and expediency in the manufacture of the device.

lt will be seen that the bristles of the brush contacting with the surface of the ground will serve to assist in maintaining the device in a level position when in operation, and the lower edges of the wings which are supported above the surface by the wheels 8 and 8 will thus be maintained in substantially parallel relation to the surface. Then the implement is pushed forward by the operator who takes hold of the handle 9, the greater portion of the loose snow will be displaced laterally in both directions, thus opening a path from which the relatively small quantity of snow still remaining will be eectively removed by the brush, the bristles of which contact with the gro-und.

lt is found that a device of the character described is extremely serviceable in quickly remo-ving snow for the purpose ofv opening walks and paths, and that the work may be performed more expeditiously and with far less expenditure of labor than by means heretofore provided for the purpose.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is

l. A il-shaped scraper including foi'- wardly converging wings or side members, a cross bar spacing and connecting the rear ends of the wings, wheels whereby the scraper is supported with the lower edges of the wings clear of the ground, and a ground engaging brush connected with the cross bar for vertical adjustment.

2. A scraper comprising forwardly converging wings or side members, a pair of wheels arranged tandem between the wings to supportthe latter with their lower edgesr clear of the ground, a cross bar connecting and spacing the rear ends of the wings, and a ground engaging brush connected with the cross bar.

3. A scraper comprising forwardly converging wings or side members, a pair of wheels arranged tandem between the side members to support the latter with their lower edges clear of the ground, a cross bar spacing and connecting the rear ends of the side members, a handle secured on the cross bar, said handle being extended downwardly and forwardly between the side members and bifurcated to accommodate the wheels, and a pin supporting the front wheel and extending through the handle to secure the latter.

A scraper comprising forwardly converging wings or side members, a cross bar spacing and connecting the rear ends of the side members, wheels whereby the scraper is supported with the lower edges of the wings clear of the ground, a handle secured on the cross bar, a brush guided for ;vertical movement between the wings, and means for securing the brush at various adjustment-s.
