Be it known that I, HAROLD M. SOHEIBE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Wilkinsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spark-Timers, of which the following is a specification. My invention relates to combined interrupters and'spark timers for use with internal combustion engines, and it has for its object to provide a simple and effective device for simultaneously adjusting both the degree of advance of the spark produced by the interrupter with relation to the engine piston and the distance between the interrupter contact members, so that the periods of engagement thereof may be made substantially uniform at all engine speeds.

A cover 15 for the shell r frame 7 is retained in position by means of a spring 16 that is carried by tl1e end bracket 5 of the generator. In the operation of the device, the frame 7 occupies the position shown when the engine is notin operation or is operating at slow speeds, and, as the speed of the engine inczfcases, the operator or driver manually moves the same in order to advance the position of the roller 11 so that it will drop into the recesses in the cam earlier in its period of rotation, thereby advancing the spark with respect to the engine pistons. At the same time the roller 11 is moved farther away from the-axis of rotation of the cam, since it turns about the axis 3, rather than about the axis of the cam. The contact ter minal 12 is then located closer to the end of the screw 13 when the roller 11 bears upon the cylindrical portions of thecam, and, consequently, it is required to move a less distancein order to engage the end of the said screw than previously. I claim as my invention: l
1. A spark timer comprising a rotatable cam, and a switch member actuated thereby and adjustable bodily in. eccentric-relation with respect thereto.
2. A spark timer comprising a rotatable cam having a plurality of recesses but being otherwise of cylindrical contour, and a pivotally mounted switch member that is actuated by the cam and is adjustable bodily about an axis that is eccentric with respect to the axis of rotation of the cam. 4
3. A spark timer comprising a rotatable cam, a sleeve surrounding the cam, the axis of which is eccentric with respect to the axi: of rotation of the cam, a movable frame mounted upon the said sleeve, and a switch member pivotally mounted in said frame and actuated by the cam.
41. A. spark timer comprising a rotatable cam, a circuit making and breaking switch one at the members of which is actuated by said cam, and a support for said switch that is rotatively adjustable about said cam upon an axis which is eccentric to the cam axis.
5. A spark timer comprising a rotatable cam, and a circuit making and breaking switch the movable member of which is actuated by said cam and is also eccentricaliy and independently adjustable with reference to the cam axis.
