CRUDE-OIL BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Pgtqgntgd Sgpfig, 16 1913,
Application filed November 21, 1912. Serial No. 732,702.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, URIAH B. PATRICK and Josnrrr S. PATRICK, citizens of the United States, residing at Oklahoma city, in the county of Oklahoma, State of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crude-Oil Burners; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to 'make and use the same.
This invention is directed to improvements in crude oil burners, and has for its object to so construct a device of this character so that the same may be conveniently ap lied to a stove.
further object of the invention is to so construct a device of this character that the oil will be vaporized in such a manner that a flame which is steady is produced.
With these and other objects in View, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a topplan view embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a front view. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on line 4l4: of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a sectional view on line 55 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 is a similar view on line 66 of Fig. 1.
The burner comprises a pair of air conducting tubes 1, the same being provided with longitudinal slots 2, and through which the air passes. The top walls of the tubes 1 are provided with semi-circular casings 3, the same being provided with a plurality of perforations 4, so formed as to lie adjacent the slots 2. The innerends of the casings 3 are closed by heads 5, while the outer ends of the casings are connected by a similar casing 6 which is mounted upon the air tube 7, said tube also being provided with a slot 8, while the casing 6 is provided adjacent the slot 8 with perforations 9.
A gas receiving tube 10 has its outer end in communication with the casing 6, said tube being of less length than the air tubes 1 and casings 3, and is semi-circular in cross section. The tube 10 is provided upon its sides with perforations 11.
The outer ends of the air tubes 1 are connected to the outer ends of tubes 12, the inner ends of WhlCh are connected to a sleeve 13, said inner ends opening into said sleeve so that air may enter through the sleeve,
and from thence through the tubes 12 to the tubes 1 and 7 A feed pipe lt leads from a suitable supply tank, (not shown) and passes through the sleeve 13 and terminates in a coil 15, the coils of which are disposed horizontally and above the gas receiving tube 10, the innermost coil terminating in a discharge nozzle 16 which is in direct alinement with the open end of the tube 10, but spaced a short distance therefrom, so that when the gas is generated in the coils, the same will be mixed with the air before entering the open end of said tube.
To start the burner oil is fed to the coil 15 through the pipe 14 until a small quantity passes through the nozzle 16 which when ignited will heat the coil 15 sufiiciently to generate gas which enters the receiving tube 10 and passes to the casings 3 and is ignited as it passes through the perforations l, the necessary air being mixed at this point as it passes through the slots 2. It will be of course understood that flame is obtained upon opposite sides of the tube 10, as well as at the outer side of the casing 6, the required amount of air being obtained through the slot 8.
What is claimed is 1. An oil burner comprising air tubes, one air tube in communication with the outer ends of the remaining air tubes, semi-circular casings mounted upon the air tubes, said casings having perforations formed therein, a gas receiving tube connected to said cas ings, a feed pipe terminating in a coil which when heated generates gas, said gas being directed into the receiving tube and from thence to the casings to be ignited when passing through the perforations in the easings, and means for admitting air into the air tubes.
2. An oil burner of the class described comprising three air tubes having slots formed therein, one of said tubes connecting the outer ends of the other two tubes, semi-circular casings mounted upon the tubes, said casings having gas outlets formed therein and adjacent the slots of the air tubes, a gas receiving tube having communication centrally of the casings, extensions connected tothe inner ends of the said other two air tubes, a sleeve in communication generated thus will be ejected through theVlO with the inner ends of the extensions to nozzle into the gas receiving tube.
