To all 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. MiNER, acitizen of the-United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois. have invented a new and useful Improvement in DraweBar and Yoke Connections for Railway Draft-Rigging, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in car coupler draw-bar and yoke connections.
Heretofore, great difficulty has been eX- perienccd in draw-bar and yoke connections generally in use fromshearing-of the tivo ,rivets which extend through the draw-bar 15 and yoke under the heavy strains, shocksvv and blows to which railway draft rigging is sulnccted.
The object of my invention is to provide a draw-bar and yoke connection which will 'be very much stronger than the two rivets heretofore employed, and which at the saine tiinewill enable the yoke and. draw-bar to be connected by a pair of rivets when occasion may require for repairs or other purposes.

ward -ends of the two limbs of the draft yoke, the draw-bar preferably havingA transverse grooves 5 in its upper and lower faces to receive the gibs 4 of the draft yoke and thus affording further abutment shoulders 6 on the draw-bar for engagement with the draft yoke gibs.
The draw-bar is provided with an upright longitudinal slot 7 having semi-circular end walls 8, the transverse width of the slot 7 being the diameter ofthe customary rivets employed in Ithe regular Master Car Builders construction, and the length of the slot 7 correspondingto the spacing of the rivet lioles in the customary or standard Master Car Builders construction. The draft vokc 2 in like manner is furnished at its front ends with an upright, longitudinal slot 9 i having semi-circular front and rear Walls 10, 11 and conforming in shapeand size to 'the slot 7 in the draw-bar.

A 'Washer 1 6 is provided at the lower end of the key and a fastener 17, which is iiiseited through an opening in the lowereiid of the key and which serves to hold. the key in place. Filler blocks 18, having convexly curved front and rear Walls 19, 20 are adapted to fit in the slot of the draw-bar when the key connection is not employed, and rivets 21 are employed with a-rivet-liole yoke of the standard Master Car Builders present construction for connecting the draw-bar and draft yoke.
In the construction shown in Figs. 3, 4 and 5, a wedge 22 is employed as the fastener for securing the key 12 in position, the key in this construction having a slot 23 with an inclined face 21 for engagement With the'inclined face 25 of the wedge. The Wedge is secured in position by a locking device 26, the key having a series of holes 27 to receive the locking device 26.
In Figs. 7, 8, 9 and .10, which illustrate the preferred construction of filler block, the
iller block'is provided. with lugs 28 on its the upright side walls of the key slot 7, the
lugs 2 8 serving to hold the filler block in placevand giving the same anchorage in the draw-bar independent of the rivets. The filler block thus serves asan additional connection between the draw-bar and yoke in resisting bufng and pulling strains.
