H/L. KEELER.
STATION INDICATOR.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 5, 1912.
Patented Sept. 9, 1913.
2 SHEETS-SHEET 2,
- TED STATES PATENT, oF E HENRY L. KEELER, OF LUNDYS LANE, PENNSYLVANIA.
Specification of Letters Patent.
STATION-INDICATOR.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, HENRY L. :KEELEB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lundys Lane, in the county of Erie. and Statefof Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Station-Indicators; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enshown and described in Letters-Patent of the United States, No. 867,630, issued to me on the 25th day of June, 1907, and No. 970,717, issued to me September 20,- 1910.
The features of my invention will appear hereinafter in the specification and claims, and are illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which I Figure 1, is a front view in elevation, of my improved station indicator. Fig. 2, is a vertical section on the line wm in Fig. 4, looking in the direction of the arrow. Fig.
3, 1s a section on the line 3 in Fig. 1,
showing a planview of the mechanism of my device. Fig. 4:, is a vertical section on the line 2-2, in Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow.
In these drawings, A, indicates the case of my station indicator, the sides a, thereof being left open. Within this case A, 'I mount a non-rotatable screw B, the ends I), of which are squared so as to prevent the same from rotating in their fastenings. Adjacent to each end of the screw B, within the case A, I journal pinion-gears C, and upon the threaded portion of the screw B, I place a rotatable nut, D, which engages the threads on the screw, this nut D, being provided with a flange cl, having holes cZ, therethrough. Passing through the holes (2, in the flange d, of the nut D, are rods E, the ends of which are securedin the pinions C, so that as the pinions C, are rotated, the rods IE, will cause the nut D, to rotate on the screw B, and the threads of the screw give longitudinal movement to the nut D. For rotating the pinions C, I provide a spurgearF, which is secured upon a shaft F,
which extends outward through the case A, of the device.
Mounted upon the shaft F, outside of the case A, is an operating lever G, which is provlded with a spring pressed bolt mecha nism G, comprising a cylindrical barrel 9, having therein a spring 9, against which the bolt G, operates. The barrel 9, is provided with a U shaped slot 9 in which the bolt-stop. 9 operates. The bolt G, has an inclined surface on one side thereof, which faces one way as shown in Fig. 1, but when it is desired to reverse the machine, the boltstop 9 is drawn backward and around through the U-shaped slot 9 and when in the lower leg of said slot is released, which will leave the inclined face on the bolt G, on top instead as shown in Fig. 1.
On the shaft F, outside of the operating lever G, is secured a disk H, which is provided with four notches h, adapted to be engaged by the bolt G. On the outside of the case A, there are leverstops J, adapted to limit the movement of the lever G, to one quarter of a circle. For moving the lever G, in one direction and retaining it in its normally raised position, I provide a spring mechanism K, which is connected with the lever G, by means of the link 70.. The spurgear F, is of such dimension that a one quarter revolution thereof will cause a one half revolution of the pinions C. p
Within the case A, on each side of the screw B, I suspend a series of sign cards L,'
upon rods L, parallel with the screw B, said sign cards being spaced apart on the rods L, by means of washers Z, and being secured in proper position, longitudinally, on the rods L, by means of the set screw collars M, thereon.
Secured on the nut D, by means of the screw d there is an arm N, preferably of circular contour and having in the edge thereof a V-shaped groove a, (see Fig. 8,) said arm N, being adapted to engage the inner edges and upper ends of the name cards L, during its rotation around the screw B, the V shaped groove in the edge thereof embracing the edge of the sign card so that the sign card will not slip off of the edge of the arm N. In the lower part of the case A, are card stops O, adapted to prevent the cards L, from swinging past a vertical line when released by the arm N.
In order to call attention to the indicator when a change of card is made, I provide Patented Sept. 9, 1913. Application filed June 5, 1912. Serial No. 701,872.
a bell-mechanism P, of usual, ordinary construction, the operating shaft P, thereof passing inward through the case A, where it is provided with a pinion Q, which inter meshes with one of the pinions C, so that whenever a half rotation is given to the pin- 2 ions C, the gong-mechanism P, will be sounded.
c In operation, when it is desired to change the name card, which pro ects from the side of the case, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the levervG, is pulled downward until it contacts with the lower most stop J, whichby means of the bolt G", engaging one of the notches h, in the disk H, imparts a quarter'revolution to the spur-gear F, inside of the case A, which in turn causes the pinions C, and nut I), and arm N, to turn one half of a revolution around the screw B, thus releasing a cardon one side of the screw and permitting it to swing downward out of sight, the nut D, and arm N, having sufiicient longitudi- 7 Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by'addressing the r v Washington, D. capacitv of the machine, and when it is desired to reverse the operation, thebolt-stop is moved in its slot as hereinbefore dewhich W111 then cause the disk H,
scribed,
torevolve in theopposite direction at each operation 01": the lever G, so thatthe nut D,
will travel backward over the screw B, to
its starting point.
Having thus fully shown and described my invention so as t o-enable others to constru'ct and use the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent aframe anon-rotatable screw secured in said frame, a nut rotatable on said screw, a.
In afstation indicator the combination of series of station cards suspendedfupon 7 common pivot at each-side of said'screw, an
arm on said nut'adapted to contact successivelv with the station cards oneach'side'" In testimony whereof I afli'x my signature,
said screw, substan H. M. S'rrmenou, I
