To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW SCHEFF, 0f Raylnondville, in the county ot' St. Lawrence and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clothes-Driel', and I do hereby declare that the following is -a full, clear, and exact descriptionV thereof', which will enable others skilled Vin the alt to make and use the same, reference beingr had to the accompanying drawing forming' part ot' this specification, in whiclr Figure 1 isl a front view of lny improved clothesdrier, showing the arms folded up. Figure 2gis a horizontal section ot the same, taken through the line :v /r, tig. 1, and showing two of the arms extended.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts. A
.My invention has for its object to finnish animproved clothes-drier, designed more especially for airing clothes after they have been ironed, but which may also be used with advantage for drying clothes after they have been washed; and
It consists in the clothes-drier constructed as hereinalter more fully described.
.A is the'block or board, in the upper end ot' which is formed a hole for convenience in hanging the device upon a nail or spike driven into the wall.
To the block Aare attached the inner or central ends oi'a series of radial arms, B, the outer parts of which are attached to a semicirc-ular bar, C, as shown 1n figs. 1 and 2.
The radial arms B are slotted from their outer ends nearly to their inner ends, and to the outer ends'oi the said arms B, within the said slots, are pivotcd the outer ends ofthe arms D in such position that, when the said pivoted arms are opened or swung out into a position at right angles with the plane of theradial arms B, the outer ends of the said pivoted arms D may enter notches in the outerside or'edge of the semicircular bar C, as shown in dotted lines in tig. 2.
The inner ends of the pivoted arms D, and 4the inner ends of the slots in the radial arms B, are beveled or made inclined, so that when the pivoted arms D are folded or shut up, they cannot enter the slots ot' the arms B further than to be in the same plane with the said radial arms B.- By lthis construction, the pivoted arms D, when extended, will all be in differentv vertical planes, sothat the clothes, when hanging upon said arms, will hang free, and not be in contact wit-li each other.
Haring thus described my invention,
.l claim as new and -desre t'o secure by Let-ters Patcnt- . An improved clothes-drier, formed by the combination of the 'central block or board A, radial slotted hars or arms B, semicircular bar O, and pivoted bars or arms D, witheach other, substantially as herein shown and described and for the purpose set forth. ANDREW SGHEFF.
