Be it known that I, JULIUS DORNETH, work-master, a.. citizen of the Kingdom of Prussia, residing'at No. 29 Nostiz street, Berlin, S. W., Germany, have invented certain nevi7 and useful Improvements in Typograph Comprising-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to improve` ments in the typograph composing machine, and an important object is means' for adjusting the matrix-bars `which make the composed line.` The working faces which comennto the question when adgusting the bars are arranged in such anianner that splashes of lead, dirt, dustand the like are not deposited on these working facesyand can not prevent them from being adjusted exactly. The adjustment is el'ected by thev matrices being lirst set in a horizo-ntal'and then in a vertical direction-- These means in accordance with the present invention are particularly suitable for machines having two and inoresorts of type.

This carriage has guide slots 142 which engage guide pins which extend into the samevfrom the frame of the machine. To the carriage 14 is rigidly secured the face 14. The end of this lever is bent up angularly to form' a slanting tace 51. The lever 46 rests against the end of this lever 2O as shown in Figs. -4 and 6a. Now when the basket is putv into gear by rotating the coupling-rod 16, the pivot 462 of the lever 46 is concurrently shifted, whereby the said lever 46 is 'rocked on its end engaging the notch 48 vuntil it is somewhat withdrawn from the end of the lever 44 (Figs. 4 and Gb). Thereby the said lever 46 presses against theend 51 of the lever 20, rocking the latter to the right and causing the, pin 15 to be pressed forward to the left- (Fig. 4).
The pin 15 must be "pulled back every time as soon as a Word is composed in one sort of' type and haste be pushed on to the strip 9. This is effected by depressing the spacekey 21.
