This invention relates to motor vehicles,
and particularly to the form of support for the motor and for the fan that is usually mounted at the front end of themotorinthe.

Referring to the drawings, the crank case or supporting base of the motor is represented at 10, and upon this base are mounted the cylinders 11. The front end of the supporting base is in the form of a gear case 12, which houses the gears for driving the cam shafts and other accessory shafts of the motor. These gears also drive a pulley 13, which is shown as arranged atone side of the motor in one of the extended ends of the gear casing 12. r V
One'of the side members of the vehicle frame is shown at 14, andupon this member and the opposite side member is supported a cross beam 15, which forms the front supporting beam of the motor. It will be understood that the rear end of the motor is suitably supported from the vehicle frame, but these parts of the motor are not Specification of Letters Patent.

A bracket 16 is suitably secured to the front end of the motor, as by bolts 17, and it is formed with two separated upwardly extending ears 18, between which the central part of the cross beam 15 passes. The ears l8 and cross beam 15 are connected by a pivot bolt 19, which may be provided with a bearing sleeve 20 to take the wean By this construction, it will be seen that the front end of the motor is supported entirely through this pivotpin 19 from the beam 15,
so that any distortion of the front end of the frame members 14-. would notbe com n unicated-to the supporting base 10 of the motor. There will therefore be slight relae tive movement between the motor base and the beam 15, with the center of the pivot It will be further observed that should the fan bracket, to be hereinafter described, be supported directly upon the beam 15, the pulley 13, in swinging about the axis of the pivot pin 19, would at times be closer to, the axis of the fan pull ey than" at others, so-that stretching of the belt 1 would result. To overcome this difficulty, the present invention provides for mounting the fan bracket upon a part of the motor so that the fan bracket, and consequently the fan pulley mounted thereon, will swing with the driving pulley 13, and the distance between the pulleys will remain constant. This construction will nowbe described.
The'ears 18 are formed with upwardly extending lugs 21, which form a support entirely above the beam 15, and upon these lugs is secured a fanbracket22,as by bolts 23, which bolts are threaded into the lugs 21. The fan bracket 22 supports a fan 24, upon the spindle of which is mounted a driven pulley 25 which is connected to the driving pulley 18 through a belt 26, or any other suitable driving mechanism.
Preferably secured between the bracket 22 and the lugs 21is a plate 27, having a bent over portion 28 which is positioned over the head of the pivot bolt 19 to pre vent the latter from being withdrawn. This forms a lock for the bolt 19 and also forms a supporting pad on the lugs 21 for the bracket 22. p
The advantages of the invention have been clearly set forth in the above description, and the operation of the mechanism is believed to be clearly understood therefrom.
Various modifications may be made without departing from the spirit or scope of this invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. The combination with a motor, of a cross supporting beam, a bracket secured to the motor, a pivot bolt connecting said bracket to said cross beam, a fan mounted on said bracket, and means for driving the fan from the motor.
2. The combination with a motor, of a cross supporting beam, a bracket secured to the motor, a pivot bolt connecting said bracket to said cross beam, a :tan mounted on said bracket, and means at one side of the motor for driving said fan.
3. The combination with a motor, of a cross supporting beam, a bracket secured to the motor, a pivot bolt connecting sald bracket to' said cross beam, a fan mounted on said bracket above the cross beam, and
a flexible driving mechanism for driving said fan from one side of said motor.
.4. The combination with a motor, of a supporting cross beam, a bracket secured to the'motor and having upwardly extending lugs, a pivot bolt extending through said lugs and said cross beam, and a fan bracket. supported on said lugs.
