To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM J. Lone,
citizen of the United States, residing at St.
Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vacuum-Massages, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a massage apparatus and has for its primary object the provision of a device of this nature in which water force may be utilized for producing a suction so that when the applicator is applied to a person said suction will cause a pulling on the skin and tissues thereof for effecting a circulation thereby rendering the skin and its tissues in a healthy condition, free from wrinkles and eruption and other affections as well as relieving the body of said person from pli sical disabilities.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character in which the water supply will be prevented from splashing when discharged therefrom, the applicator of the device being applicable to any part of the human body for treatment of the skin through the medium of vacuum to remove blemishes, skin afi'ections or other ailments.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple in construction, reliable and efficient in operation and inexpensive in manufacture.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
The invention accordingly consists int-he features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter set forth and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the following claim.
In the drawings :Fi ure 1 is a central longitudinal sectional vlew of the device constructed in accordance with the invention showing the same connected for operation to a water faucet indicated in dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional v ew thereof on the line 2--2 of Fig. 1, looklng in the direction of the arrow.

Referring to the drawings in detail the device as a whole comprises. a suction tube 5 which may be of any desired length, shape and cross sectional size, it being preferably formed from metal and has secured in its upper end a jet nozzle 6, the same may be formed'integral'with the said tube and is provided with external threads 7 for detachable connection with a sleeve 8 fixedly mounted in a flexible hollow bulb 9 preferably made of soft rubber or the like, the sleeve 8 being fast inthe contracted portion 10 of the said bulb 9 while its opposite end is formed with a central opening 11 adapted to fit snugly over the end of a faucet 12, a depending lip or flange 13 being formed around said opening 11 Within said bulb whereby when the water under pressure is admitted to said bulb the pressure thereof will'operatc to force said flange into strong frictional engagement with said faucet and secure the bulb firmly into position thereon.
Telescoping upon the free end of the suction tube 5 and extendin slightly beyond the same is a flared or conical shaped guard head'l l provided with an inturned annular flange 15, the head being provided interiorly with a spreader disk 16. the same being located in alinement with the opening in the tube 5 and spaced from its free end. The disk 16 at diametrically opposite sides thereof is cutaway to form arcuate shaped discharge openings 17 so as to permit the water when passing through the suction tube 5 to discharge from the head 14, the disk 16 serving to impede the travel of the water through the tube 5 and retard its force when under pressure. The disk 16 breaks the column of Water flowing through the suction tube 5 deflecting it against the inner wall of the head l lprior to the discharge of the water therefrom thus preventing the splashing of the water when being discharged from the head.
Integral with and projecting laterally from one side of the suction tube 5 contiguous to the jet nozzle 6 is a nipple 18 to whic is adapted to be connected a flexible tube 19 preferably formed of soft rubber, the opposite end of which is also connected to a nipple 2O permanently mounted centrally in an applicator 21 which is in the form of a cup made from rubber. However, it is to be understood that different forms of applicators may be used and to provide for this the tube is readily detachable from the nipple 20 of the applicator 21 so that any other form may be connected to the tube as will be apparent.
The operation of the massage device is as follows: When it is desired to use the device the opening 11 in the widened portion of the bulb 9 is inserted over the end of the faucet 12 and said faucet turned to admit water under pressure to the suction tube 5, the stream of water issuing from the faucet, will be acted upon by the jet nozzle 6 so as to reduce the column of water admitted into the suction tube 5 and the flowing of the water through the latter, will induce a suction therein and likewise a suction will be produced at the open end of the applicator 21 so that when the latter is applied to the part to be treated by placing its edge against the part thus closing the same and preventing the admission of air thereto. When holding the applicator securely in contact with the part to be treated it will cause a pulling action upon the skin and as the applicator is moved the skin and its tissues will be drawn thereby creating a circulation, thus rendering a healthy condition thereto. The suction in the applicator 21. will be increased according to the increase of water pressure when the water is passing through the suction tube 5 of the device and forthe administration of the maswill be apparent and therefore a more ex tended'explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is In a suction device,
of an air inlet in communication with the suction tube contiguous to the jet nozzle, an open ended head member attached to said suction tube in position to surround its opposite end, the outer edge of the head being bent to form a flange which partially closes said open end, a plate mounted interiorly of said head, intermediate the outer end thereof and the outer end of the suction tube in alinement therewith, said plate being provided with oppositely disposed discharge openings.
