DAVID MIL NE, OF NORWIOHQNEW YORK.
Letters Patent No. 167,191, dated September 6, 187 0 IMPROVEMENT IN GAS-FIXTURES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Figure 3 is an edge view of the device when extended. Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
The object of my invention is to furnish a strong and durable drop or bracket-burner that shall be capableof folding together in a compact manner; and
It consists in the peculiar construction ot'the varionsparts of the fixture, and the combimition'and relative arrangement of the .same, as hereinafter set forth.
In theannexcd drawing- A represents the outer end of the supply-pipe, having secured to or upon its end a T-shaped elbow, B, from opposite ends of which project, outward and forward, two small pipes, O. I I
The pipes G extend forward in parallel lines, and have secured upon the outer end of each a swing joint, D,to which are attached the ends of two pipes, E, in such a manner as to permit the latter to have thereon a free swinging motion in a plane parallel with and inside of said pipes O. I
The upper ends of the pipes E curve inward, parallel with the outer pipes O, and each terminates in a double elbow, F, the lower part of which, j, ibrms a barrel for the reception of a two ended-plug, G, which is secured therein and caused to connect said elbows together, by means of the usual screw and washer, g,
upon its outer ends, the whole forminga doubleswing joint.
Secured to and projecting outward from the centerof the plug-G, in a line with the pipes O and E, is a single pipe, H, having, upon its outer end,-a cross-' pipe, -I, the ends of which are turned upward, (as shown in fig. 1,) and each terminates in a burner, K, or the end of said. pipe I may be turned to one side and provided with a burner, K, so as to permit the device to be used as a side-or bracket-burner.
As thus constructed, the device may be closed together, when not in 'use, so. as to occupybut little space, or, if desired, may be extended to nearly three times such length, so as to bring the burner in the required position with relation to t-heceilingor side wall.
exceeding compactness, combined with great strength and durability, without a material increase inits cost over those of ordinary construction.
I am aware that gas-fixtures, made adjustable in two directions, and capable of use as a drop or as a ln'acket-burner, have heretofore been used, and therefore do not wish to be understood as claiming, broadly, such a device.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and merits of my invention, I
What I claim as new is- The hereinbefore described drop or bracket-burner, consist-lug of the pipes O, E, and H, connected together by means ot' the elbow B, the swing joints 1), and the double swing joint E, f, and G, constructed substantially as and for the purpose specified.
I In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto setmy hand and seal this 29th day of J uly DAVID MILNE.- [1,. s.]
